Water Dripping From and Mold Growing in Apartment Air Ducts?

My family and I rent from the Housing Authority and I noticed the vents were really dirty when we moved in. I took them down and cleaned them all with bleach, but they are filthy again. I've recently noticed that water has been dripping from at least on of the vents. I took the vents back down to clean them and looked at them more closely and realized that the grime in them is actually mold. It hasn't spread to anything else in the house (visibly at least). My family has all been really sick with allergies this year, and I'm betting this and the mold growing on the fence outside is why. I'm also pregnant and worried about how badly this will effect the baby. The air conditioner/heater has not been worked on at all (with the exception of the air filter changed) since we moved in a little over a year ago. The landlord is not an easy person to work with and I know she will fight any request to clean the mold. I do not have the money for a lawyer. What course of action can I take?Water Dripping From and Mold Growing in Apartment Air Ducts? If your landlord is not maintaing the property and there is mold in the air ducts, even though you say you can't afford an attorney, you can notify the county or local health department. They can contact the landlord and if they refuse to perform an corretive actions, then the city can step in along with the health department. You can also contact your states attorney general for assistance which is free. They can give you the best information on what your legal rights are.

Check the government pages or simply go online and type in your state in a search engine. It will normally list a state website from which you can locate the attorney generals email or phone number.Water Dripping From and Mold Growing in Apartment Air Ducts?Move.
