Please help don't know what to do about my car?

i have a 1998 Cadillac seville sls. the breaks have been squeaking and last week the car said engine oil level low. the car also said at that point that the engine oil life was at 23% today when i took the car in to a Midas it said 17% oil engine life. so they charged me 300 dollars on the receipt it says they did an oil change, replaced the air filter, changed brake pads, fuel induction service, and a brake flush. the second i drove off the parking lot my service engine light came on! this light has never came on since i have owned the car! and my engine oil life now says 16% which is lower than when i took it in! did they do something to my car at all? i don't know anything about cars im pregnant and my husband is nowhere around please tell me what to say or how to prove that they messed up.Please help don't know what to do about my car?Your premonition may be correct, they may not have done all the listed items. The second you drive your car from a shop and something doesn't seem right, drive it right back there and make them fix it or talk to their regional manager right away.

My wife is pregnant too and she relys on me for these things. I'm sorry you had to deal with this. Take a male friend who knows cars into the shop there and help you out. Good luck and hope it gets resolved. Please help don't know what to do about my car?they probly didnt reset oil life. check engine could be alot of thing.take it back. Please help don't know what to do about my car?You have to manually reset the service oil light. On many GMs, you turn the key to on (engine off), then floor the gas three times. That resets the oil reminder. A lot of mechanics just forget to reset it (or don't know how for every car).

As for the check engine light, tell them it came on as soon as you drove off the lot. Ask if they could just read the codes. A good manager would scan the codes for free. (All it takes is plugging in the reader and reading the codes.) It may or may not have anything to do with what they did.

I don't know if they messed up, but if I were to bet, I'd bet that they really did all they said they did. Please help don't know what to do about my car?Did they call you before they did all the work? They have to call you before they do anything ...service light could be something thing else it could happen any time....oil 16% that doesn't make sen should be 95% because you just got it change you should ask them ...why is 16% good luckPlease help don't know what to do about my car?Take it back to the same place and ask them,,,What the heyyy! They should be able to fix it or answer your questions. Please help don't know what to do about my car?Since modern vehicles have become increasingly complex over the years, the reason for a check engine light can also be quite complex. You should take the car to a name brand auto parts store and tell the person behind the counter that you want to have the OBD (On Board Diagnostics) code read for your car. Most of the larger chains will do this for free. Since your vehicle is a 1998, it most likely requires an OBD-II code scanner, but this should be irrelevant to anybody behind the counter. Once you know which code the check engine light has issued, you should be able to take the vehicle to an ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) certified shop, and have the vehicle repaired properly. Note, that an ASE certified technician will run the code check as well, but it never hurts to know exactly what is wrong with the vehicle yourself before taking it any place to be repaired.

You will see this symbol on any automotive center that has received ASE certification: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ASE_ce

I hope this helps, and good luck. Please help don't know what to do about my car?on that car you should have a reset button. every time you change the oil you have to set the reminder.

Small claims. How good are my chances of winning?

My parents bought me a car for my 16th birthday. They never put it in my name or anything, but insisted I pay for everything because, after all, it is MY car. So I gladly paid for tires, brakes, oil changes, and air filter changes. Last year the transmission started going out(reverse doesn't work, but all other gears do) They insisted I take it to my cousins repair shop to be fixed. My cousin told me it would be $750.00 to get it repaired and he needed the money up front so he could buy a tranny. I gave him all the money like he wanted and he NEVER fixed it. Recently I moved out and moved in with my boyfriend. They got angry about that and told me that if I moved in with him and took %26quot;their%26quot; car they would report it stolen and have me arrested. Being the car isn't in my name I just left it. Well I need the money back and they won't give it to me. I told them all I wanted was the $750.00 and I would forget about everything else I put into it. Unless they made me take them to court for it and then I would push for more( all the tires and everything I put into it when I was under the impression it was %26quot;my%26quot; car) So my mom told me take her to court, I would lose because she's my mom and its O.K for her to keep my money. I am 20years old. I am capable of having money I worked for.

So I am taking her to court and I was wondering what are my chances of winning?? I have all the receipts and everything.

And if your wondering how my mom got my $750.00 that I gave to my cousin to fix the car, my cousin gave it to my mother because my mother asked her to.

I am sorry this is so long. I am just nervous about taking her to court and losing. Thanks in advance to all the answers.Small claims. How good are my chances of winning? They are probably not good if you have no attorney and they have an 'old friend' on retainer.

If niether you or they can contract one, maybe even odds, but I would not bet my life on it.

You'd stand a better chance in Judge Judy's venue...

Bottom Line: Do NOT try to do this alone.

2003 Trailblazer tune-up advice?

My 2003 Trailblazer I just bought has 78,000 miles on it. I'm not 100% sure of the maintenance that the previous owner did, I know it was taken care of but I figured it might be good to change the fuel filter and change the plugs. I have changed the air filter and done an oil change so that is set. I know the fuel filter should be easy enough, I am just trying to figure out how difficult the plugs are to change, I have had some vehicles that it is easier to just pay to have it done. I am not a master mechanic but I have worked on cars from time to time so I am just wondering how much work is involved and how long it will take. Any suggestions from past experience would be great. I was also wondering what else you might suggest doing to to it. I am just trying to get it taken care of to prevent problems down the road.

Thanks in advance2003 Trailblazer tune-up advice?first of all, get that liftgate looked at.

the spark plugs on this vehicle are iridium tipped plugs and don't normally require replacement for 100,000 miles. i've done several tuneups on vehicles with 120,000 original miles on the plugs and they still look great! don't change the plugs unless you have to. the throttle body has to come off and the intake resonator. you have individual coil packs for each plug so there aren't any wires, and the coil packs don't require maintenance. your fuel system should be okay, but you can change the filter yourself. its in front of the fuel tank on the drivers side. you'll need a phillips #2 bit for the filter retainer. they use quick disconnect fittings on those so you won't need wrenches. also, have a professional technician look over your vehicle real good and have the dealership check for open recalls. the trailblazer had tons of recalls from general motors and they won't cost you a dime to do those recalls. that's all i can think of off the top of my head.

the exhaust camshaft phaser solenoid leaks oil past the solenoid and saturates the connector and wiring. it's gonna set a check engine lamp. i've done lots of those on the 4.2 inline 6. and some secondary air reaction check valves, they rust shut and set a check engine light.

let me know if you have any additional questions.2003 Trailblazer tune-up advice?plugs wires, fuel filter air filter (spend the money and get a k%26amp;n) oil change also run seafoam in the tank2003 Trailblazer tune-up advice?I'd bet the transmission maintenance has been ignored, most owners let it. It's just dump %26amp; wipe the pan and put in a new filter.Pull out 2 of the sparkplugs to see if they need replacement. Check %26amp; refill the rearend's gear lube. Get a 'Haynes' manual to familerize yerself with the car's requirements. =^ )2003 Trailblazer tune-up advice?Depends on the engine size. Chevy isnt too bad though2003 Trailblazer tune-up advice? The maintenance schedule should be in the manual, but the spark plug interval is usually 100K, the truck probably has double Platinum or iridium plugs. If I am not mistaken, the trailblazer is coil on plug, I don't think it has ignition wires.2003 Trailblazer tune-up advice?Plugs are good for 100K. Flush the Transmission, Rear Diff. and front Diff. and get ready for bad news I have seen many a bad bearing in the front differential of the trail blazer. Pinion seals leak also. Use

Synthetic 80-90w lube. in the diffs. do not forget the transfer case also.2003 Trailblazer tune-up advice?i would defiantly check the gearboxes you will need a #10 allen socket to check the t-case- make sure the fluids are clean the t-case should either be a blue green color or pink like the trans depending on the model- the transmission should be light pink if its dark get a heavy duty service- you need a ph strip to check the brake fluid but if it appears dark get that swapped out too- power steering should be light amber colored if its dark change it- im not so sure the 03 is going to have a fuel filter- it might. Spark plugs aren't bad you need to remove the upper plenum- once that's off its just a matter of taking the coils off and taking the plugs out the far 2 will be a bit tough but nothing special be extremely careful not to over-tighten the new plugs- cylinder heads suck on these! Also you should get a fuel injection cleaning done or use a good fuel additive every oil change- oh and coolant should be orange in color and should protect up to -40 if not get it flushed let me know if you have any questions.

Problem with my Ford...Please HELP with any ideas!?

I have a 1998 Ford Explorer. I was driving down the interstate today and it just quit, I pulled over and blue smoke came out of the hood. I try to start it back up and it will start to crank but will not start. I just got the oil changed about 3 weeks ago, with an oil filter, and air filter change. A few days after the oil change it did start to knock a little bit. My ex-husband took out the thermostat some time ago if that matters. I am a single mother of 3 and cannot afford much, I've had it towed to my home, but any insight of what the problem could be so I can get an idea of how much its gonna cost would be great! Thank you so much!Problem with my Ford...Please HELP with any ideas!?I'm sorry to say but it does sound like either a lose oil plug or oil filter has caused major failure. The only other thing it may be, possible leak from thermostat housing, If it got hot from lack of water then it MAY be fine. Good luck, So Sorry !Problem with my Ford...Please HELP with any ideas!?that's why ford stands for Found On Road: Dead

blue? maybe the alternatorProblem with my Ford...Please HELP with any ideas!?an 1998 ford will probably cost you around 5,000 to 7,000 thousand $Problem with my Ford...Please HELP with any ideas!?Wow it could be many things. Fuel pump comes to mind. You need to have it tested too bad you did not have it towed to a shop that could test it. Ask your friends if they know an expert that they really really trust that could test and find out what the problem is.

I bet it is the fuel pump, however do not pay to have anything replaced as far as parts go until the test really shows what part is really bad. They will replace all kinds of parts without a test that cost all kinds of money. They will tell you that it helped and that the parts were almost shot anyhow. $1,200.00 later they will replace the $60.00 part that caused the problem!

Best of luck!

PeterProblem with my Ford...Please HELP with any ideas!?the thermostat has nothing to do with. I am willing to guess that after the oil change you had a leak and now you have no oil in the drain pan. Have you checked the oil since the oil change? If it was low did you return to the garage that did it. The blue smoke is because you have either threw a rod or burnt a valve. Good luck and I hope this helps.Problem with my Ford...Please HELP with any ideas!?started to knock after oil change? I would assume not enough oil and you spun a bearing or some other interior engine part. if you can determine that the engine failed due to lack of oil you have legal recourse against the shop.Problem with my Ford...Please HELP with any ideas!?Too many possibilities to diagnose, but check the oil, you never know if the mechanic left the oil plug loose.

Why did I get a thumbs down?Problem with my Ford...Please HELP with any ideas!?i hate to say it but i got my money on a blown motor due to lack of oil/no oil. check the oil level and then check the oil filter and plug to see if they are on and tight.

  • How much...................?

do fuel filters cost? Or I should say how much would it cost to have one put in? And if my filter is clogged can I f up my car by driving it?Sorry this is like my 5th time asking a car quesiton but I just don't know much and don't want to get ripped off. Also I know how to change an air filter is a fuel filter something I could do or does it envolve going into the gas tank? How much...................?Please add make model and engine size next time. Some fuel filters are in the gas tank and can cost $200 to replace. Most are easier to do, probably cost you $25 to $50 to change and the filter, about $15. I suppose the filter could wreck the pump but by that time the filter would be too clogged to pull the car out of the driveway. How much...................?filter itself

    15 bucks

    with labor

    maybe 40?

and yes you can, it hurts the fuel pump

i would say its a littler harder

have to relieve pressure in the fuel lines

    etc..

How much more b.h.p. will I get ?

By changing my air filter to an induction kit and puting a cat bypass on my mg zr 160 how much more b.h.p. will I get, I know were not talking about massive power gains I would be happy with between 10 and 15 but waybe thats even optimistic..By the way the only other none standerd part is a magnex back box ,thanks .How much more b.h.p. will I get ?You will gain very little there, your just tinkering on the edges, it will sound better and you may see a slightly better return on MPG but that's about it.

If you must do it then keep hold of your cat and re-fit about a week before your test comes up. How much more b.h.p. will I get ?You will see more of an hp gain with the cat bypass. The induction kit will help but may not really be noticed until way up in the higher rpms. As far as a horsepower gain goes from these mods alone I would think that it would be in the 7-10 hp range. Again most of the seat of the pants hp gain will come from the bypass of the cat. How much more b.h.p. will I get ?It's academic as your car will probably fail the emissions test at MOT.

If I wanted to increase the power output of my MG I would contact a tuning firm, such as Janspeed, and enquire about an exchange cylinder head or even just a performance camshaft. They will have BHP figures to quote. You are just dabbling. Your induction and exhaust mods will make the car sound nice. But noise is not synonymous with power. Whatever you do don't forget to tell your insurers as you will be paying premiums for nothing when it comes to a claim refused. How much more b.h.p. will I get ?in real terms about 7 bhp, removal of the cat will give most of it, the induction kits just make a din.

it will sound quick even if it doesnt go any faster! How much more b.h.p. will I get ?I believe that is illegal. I would be looking at having the head skimmed down to in crease the compression ratio. How much more b.h.p. will I get ?6 to 7 hp from the cat bypass, induction kit will be evident way up in the rpmsHow much more b.h.p. will I get ?bypassing the CAT is illegal. bhp gain will be about 10 hp.How much more b.h.p. will I get ?You should get about an extra 9.

What is wrong with my car?

I just purchased a used car. It ran fine but now the check engine light is on and it wont start. I changed the air filter and aired up the tires, but this didn't help. I am wondering if anyone knows what it might be and how much including tax to get it fixed if I do it myself? Thanks. What is wrong with my car?The air filter and the air pressure in the tires would not be the problem. When you said it wouldn't start, will it at least turn over, and crank? If not, then you may have an electrical drain on the battery, or a battery with a dead cell, or even a bad alternator.

You will need to have the error codes read, if the engine turns over but won't start.

good luckWhat is wrong with my car?a car that's completely dead like that is usually not that hard to fix, because whatever's wrong will be obvious. one that just runs funny sometimes when it rains, is hard to fix. typically, when it's dead like that, something electrical is dead. but nowadays the fuel injection is all electrical, too.

how much it costs, that depends on which part is broken, though. could be anything, fuel pump, distributor, etc. if you're really lucky, it's just a fuse or something. What is wrong with my car?The check engine light usually means that the EGR valve is clogged.

But this condition alone does not mean that the engine wont start.

You don't give us much information. There is a universe of conditions that can cause an engine not to start.

    Two thing to do:

    a) Disconnect the battery for 15 minutes. This will clear the computer. Maybe you are lucky and the engine will start after this

    b) Ask a pro to scan the computer. Get a reportWhat is wrong with my car?ok, now we have just enough information to tell you that something is wrong with your car.

Did you drain all the old air out of the tires before adding more?

The check engine light being on while the engine's not running means nothing. What is wrong with my car?i see a whole lot of hooey, pull coded and find out why the light came on, do the repairs and go from there. more than likely the problems are related. What is wrong with my car?try to check these things: battery%26amp; connections, starter, ignition, soelenoid switch, fuses. if you give more info i can help narrow things down. What is wrong with my car?Since airing up the tires didn't work, it souds like the Left Handed Throset valve needs adjusting. What is wrong with my car?u may need some coolant. It cools ur car down. I know we need here in slots vegas. ahaha. You can always goto autozone. What is wrong with my car?the first thing i would do is check the computer and find out whats making the light come on.What is wrong with my car?the driver and the 599 super leggha 5 vaulve switchto the donta part of the ladder

Do I need to change my furnace filter even when I'm using the a/c?

My lack of knowledge of how the ac unit that is outside manages to cool the air that comes through my vents is likely the cause of my ignorance behind this question. Please explain this to me.Do I need to change my furnace filter even when I'm using the a/c?yes if your a/c and your heat use the same ductsDo I need to change my furnace filter even when I'm using the a/c?yes, because the fan is still running and circulating air.Do I need to change my furnace filter even when I'm using the a/c?Your heating system and air conditioning system both deliver air to the inside of your home via the same ducting. I would alos assume the air uses the same fan motor to push the air. So, yes, you need to change your filter all year round. One thing to consider when buying a filter is the total size and the thickness. Read the manufacturers advice as to how often to change the filter. Also, consider what you want to trap in the filter and above all, don't skimp on cost, there are many filters to suit any need, from just dust collection to heavy pollutents, so choose widely and but reasonably based on what you want to control.

I hope this helps, good luck!

rentahandyman@yahoo.comDo I need to change my furnace filter even when I'm using the a/c?Your furnace and air conditioning work together to take the heat out of the air. The hot air in your house is pulled into the furnace where the heat from the air is transfered to the refridgerant, taken outside and disapated. The cooled refrigerant is then sent back to the furnace and air is passed through the cooled coils and then your furnace filter and then the rest of the vent work. Your air is filtered at all times unless you do not run the ac or heat. Change your filter as often as the type of filter you have in there specifys--They cost anywhere from 99 cents to a couple bucks depending on the quality.--and yes you can do it yourself. Please ask more questions--us men love ladies in distress!!Do I need to change my furnace filter even when I'm using the a/c?of all the concerns...ok the system may or not...run through the duct work at the filter....on a good fresh air system...it would or even have a seperate system...because of outside dust and debris.....so for 3.75 a pop.....check and change it.....do this a few times....record the weight of yr filter....if it's exact...ot won't change...if it weighs more...its worknDo I need to change my furnace filter even when I'm using the a/c?it keeps the doodoo off your coil, which in turn would build up into sludge, grow black mold %26amp; in turn the mold continues to advance out to the registers %26amp; it looks like soot is around your registers! wait a minute are you my aunt?Do I need to change my furnace filter even when I'm using the a/c?Thank you for asking,,, and even admitting ignorance,,,which by the way is not a sin, or a capital offense. many of us are about many things.

You state Furnace, and AC unit outside. Is each a separate system, or use different fuels or power sources?

If in fact you had/have a Heat Pump system that offers both then your filters should be located in air %26quot;returns%26quot; somewhere in the house. An AC unit has no real FILTER system by itself.

The %26quot;registers%26quot; or %26quot;vents%26quot; obviously are where the air,,, heated or cooled, flows into each room. Unless this an an older home I can't imagine an AC units delivery and return system being tied in to a furnace that may have separate fuel or power sources.

IE: If I had a gas or fuel oil furnace and a separate AC system, I'd want to keep them separate,,even if more registers and returns had to be installed.

I guess answers could be more helpful with more detail.

%26quot;We never close%26quot;Do I need to change my furnace filter even when I'm using the a/c?Hang on kid. Too much information and not enough knowledge can be dangerous, as exhibited by some of the answers. The air in your home is circulated through the air handle for both a/c and heat. Yes change your filter every three monthsDo I need to change my furnace filter even when I'm using the a/c?Buy the cheapest (fiberglass) filters (l2 in a case) and change them on the same date every month. The air that comes through your vents is not being cooled in that piece of OUTSIDE equipment. The air is being cooled in that piece of equipment that is INSIDE your home. Be assured that changing the filter every month will prevent problems and cause your equipment to operate more efficiently. Good luck.Do I need to change my furnace filter even when I'm using the a/c?Yes your vents are used for both the furnace and A/C. You should change your filters every 3 months. Don't but the cheap blue fiberglass filters with the circular holes, they are worthless. Get the pleated filters that trap pollen and dust.Do I need to change my furnace filter even when I'm using the a/c?Buy cheap filters and change every month, you will have the least problems this way.

Has anyone had the professional air duct cleaning system done in their home and...?

...do you feel it was worth it doing and made a big difference? How often have you had this done, and what is the recommended time the company tells you it should be done again.

I am asking in Seniors because I placed this in maintenance and home repairs and got one reply in well over 4 hours. I was wondering if it really helps that much. We do change our furnace/air filters every 8 weeks, some times sooner, even if they do not look as if they need it. I would like more than one answer in order to determine if this is something we need to have done. Our home is 41 yrs old. We have no way of knowing if it had been done previously. We do not see an over abundance of dirt on our filters when we change them.Has anyone had the professional air duct cleaning system done in their home and...?My home is 20 years old so I had it done last year. I don't notice any difference. I think it was a waste of money and won't do it again. I change filter every month and that seems to work well.Has anyone had the professional air duct cleaning system done in their home and...?It depends on who does it.

You must be sure it is a reputable company and ask for references.

I had it done because I was constantly sneezing (dust allergy) whenever the furnace or air conditioner came on, even with regular filter changes, and I was horrified at how much stuff was removed.

It did help with my sneezing.

So count me as one who thinks it is a good idea.Has anyone had the professional air duct cleaning system done in their home and...?I had mine cleaned couple years ago. I don't know if it made any difference as my house is always dusty even after they cleaned the vents. We've had it done about 3 times that I can remember within a 30 years time span. If you do decide to have them done, make sure they don't punch holes in your furnace ducts like they did mine. The people that did it before didn't have to do this to clean the vents. I was very upset.Has anyone had the professional air duct cleaning system done in their home and...?I have actually done the work In some cases it's too late to get it clean so you suction out all the loose stuff and seal the rest in with floor wax.

Do you have allergies? If so once a year. Yes it can make a big difference to some. None at all to others.

Watch them and make sure they do a good job. The technique is good but dependent on the person doing the work.Has anyone had the professional air duct cleaning system done in their home and...?I believe that a good duct cleaning and a big Bull Ring in Old Mexico like the one behind the La Macarina Bar and Restaurant in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico across the Rio Grande from Del Rio, Texas are full of Bull Caca. I would save my duct cleaning money and spend it on Carta Blanca and Bohemia at the La Macarena Bar. O'leHas anyone had the professional air duct cleaning system done in their home and...?It's a scam and a waste of money. There is nothing wrong with yours.

    EDIT

I have been in the home repair business for 20 yrs and have never seen dirty a/c ducts and I have inspected hundreds of them.

The woman below me was told that by a person trying to sell something.Something that they don't need.Has anyone had the professional air duct cleaning system done in their home and...?It does not matter how much dust you have in your ducts. The filter collects it before going back into you house. Most of the dust comes from static and does not matter, you never get all out. Even consumer critics agree.. it is a waist of money. Replace your filters only if they need to be replaced by looking at it. If you see light then they are still ok to use.Has anyone had the professional air duct cleaning system done in their home and...?I knew someone in the business.

    It is a scam.

Also, a few weeks ago, there was a warning on the news about a duct cleaning company.

They telemarket just to get in the home, to case the place for theft.Has anyone had the professional air duct cleaning system done in their home and...?We have never had this done in any of our homes. This farm house we live in now is almost forty years old, I never thought of having the ducts cleaned just changing the filters. PoppyHas anyone had the professional air duct cleaning system done in their home and...?no need if you change filters regularly. waste of money. be sure to use a quality filter such as the three month type.Has anyone had the professional air duct cleaning system done in their home and...?I have talked to someone who does that, he says he gets a huge amount of dust out of the ducts, he will show it to the homeowners and they can hardly believe how much comes out. He said that it helps on heating because when the heat comes on that dust buildup in the ducts absorbs the heat first before the heat can get into the home. There is also a chance of molds and mildew growing in the dust, even the black dangerous type can grow there (saw that on Oprah).

I haven't had it done here where I live, have lived here 6 years and probably needs to be done.

AC pipe that attaches to my furnace keeps freezing up and I have no AC. How can I fix this and get cool air?

Yesterday, after I changed the extremely dirty air filter, I turned off the AC and just ran the fan for 4 hours and I thought I had everything melted. When I turned the AC back on, It seemed to work for a while but this morning I saw it had frozen up again and the air was not cold that was comimng out my vents. The furnace/AC is only about 3 years old.AC pipe that attaches to my furnace keeps freezing up and I have no AC. How can I fix this and get cool air?Your coil will freeze up when you are low on freon. I'd call a repairman. That is not something you can fix youself.AC pipe that attaches to my furnace keeps freezing up and I have no AC. How can I fix this and get cool air?The evaporator coil itself may be dirty. Open the cabinet and take a look. Most hardware stores or home centers should have coil cleaner to clean the coils. A stiff paint brush will also work to brush off the coils. While you are at it, also clean the outdoor coils.

Run the fan to thaw out the coils prior to cleaning. If the system freezes up after cleaning, you will need to call a pro to look at the system. It could be low on refrigerant, and they will need to locate and repair the leak prior to charging.

70% of the time it is just a clogged evaporator coil.AC pipe that attaches to my furnace keeps freezing up and I have no AC. How can I fix this and get cool air?The filter protects the coil inside the unit that makes the cold air. Chances are if the filter was extremely dirty, the indoor coil is going to be dirty.

Try getting a mild detergent and cleaning the indoor coil. Sometimes these are difficult to get to and may require a pro.

If you clean it and it still freezes up, you probably have a leak in the refrigerant system and will need to get that repaired by a pro as well.AC pipe that attaches to my furnace keeps freezing up and I have no AC. Could a dirty fuel filter be whats causing my car to stall?

I have a 96' Ford Escort. Its been having a problem that any time I'm not using that gas, either waiting at a light or just coasting down a road, it will cut out on me. I then have to re-start the car and hope that no one hits me in the process and it's a real pain in the butt. Anyhow, to try and solve the problem I've gotten a new air filter and an oil change. But it's still stalling on me. I've been told it might be the fuel filter by my friend but I don't know how much truth there is to that. Could it be the fuel filter? And if so how much does it cost to replace?Could a dirty fuel filter be whats causing my car to stall?yes it could be something as simple as a fuel filter causing that too happen, have a computer scan done on it at auto zone to see if you have any trouble codes on it if you dont try changing the filter they cost about 15 bucks and that may solve your problem with it,sometimes its the simplest things that cause the biggest problems, good luck.Could a dirty fuel filter be whats causing my car to stall?your welcome.

Could a dirty fuel filter be whats causing my car to stall? One of the biggest driveability problems the escorts had was that the fuel pump ground was at the negative terminal on the battery. When corroded or poorly connected at the ground terminal,at idle their was just enough resistance to cause the fuel pump to slow or stop and the engine would stall.Make sure that the battery terminals are clean and properly tightened and it may cure the problem.Could a dirty fuel filter be whats causing my car to stall?if it was the fuel filter, you'd have more problems under accelleration than idling or coasting, because it obviously takes more gas to accell than to idle. (stopped up filter can't flow enough fuel). Sounds more like a stuck EGR valve or IAC. This problem requires a proper diagnoses, because there can be a number of things that can cause this problem. Good thing is, the diagnoses should not be that hard. Could a dirty fuel filter be whats causing my car to stall? It could be a dirty fuel filter, If it hasn't been changed in the past year I would go ahead and change it. The injectors could be starving for fuel under their pressure demand. A filter from a parts store isn't more than ten bucks and it can be changed for a reasonably low price. Good luck. If the car idles rough as well it could be a dirty IAC valve.Could a dirty fuel filter be whats causing my car to stall?typically, if you have a failing fuel filter, you will notice a problem over an rpm range under a load, not at idle. i would look some where else. it might be time for a major tune up( plugs and wires cap and rotor if your car is equipped with em.) if you do not have a check engine light on, that eliminates so many of the other possibilities. Could a dirty fuel filter be whats causing my car to stall?Check the rubber hose for the PCV valve. It often develops a a crack or hole where it plugs into the intake manifold/throttle body. It's a common problem on Escorts.Could a dirty fuel filter be whats causing my car to stall?yea, and you probaby need a tune up... plugs, cap, rotor and fuel filter . . total if you know someone who can do all these for you $50 bucksCould a dirty fuel filter be whats causing my car to stall? It absolutely could be the fuel filter.Could a dirty fuel filter be whats causing my car to stall?yep, it sure can. if the gas filter is clogging up, it will shut your car down.

How can I fix my dust problem? No matter what I do, dust returns within a few hours?

I moved into a two bedroom apartment about 4 months ago with a friend and ever since, I've noticed that there is just SO MUCH DUST everywhere. No matter what I do... dust, wipe with wet paper towels, pledge, etc... there is some new dust within a few hours and it slowly piles up. I have also been getting sick MUCH easier since I moved in and think it may have to do with this whole dust issue.

My roommate has a cat and also smokes pot in the house sometimes, but usually in her room. I ALWAYS keep my door closed so the cat never goes in and my room never smells like weed. I know I'm not allergic to cats (my parents had them the whole time i was growing up). I have a large air purifier in my room i purchased two months ago and i've already had to change the filters on that 3 times. They should be lasting at least a month or two. Also, I know there is no mold in the apartment - it was just built less than 4 years ago. I keep my windows closed. We just changed the air filters about a month and a half ago also. I just don't know what to do. I realize things get dusty... I have lived in an apartment all by myself before. But seriously, this is like nothing i've seen! And I think I may be getting sick because of it, or at least a weak immune system.

Anyways, if anyone has any clue as to why this may be happening and what i can do to fix the problem, please let me know. Thanks so much! How can I fix my dust problem? No matter what I do, dust returns within a few hours?Ok so what your going to have to do is a really thorough clean. I mean you and your room mate...every crevace gets wet and cleaned. From the walls to the floors. Furnature (underneath, and backs of items against the wall etc). Using a diluted solution of cleaner and warm water usually does the trick. Be carefull on some surfaces (use furnature cleaner etc if you want) and dry items after you've washed them.

It may take all day, or even all weekend but it'll be worth it. Systematicaly work from one end to the other. It's okay to open windows and let the stale dust out. Check the walls and under doorways carefully, to see if it's coming from an outside source. Vacuum up all the furnature and wash as many soft surfaces as possible (drapes, comfoters etc).

What could be happening is not so much as a 'dust coming from no where' situation...but more of a moving dust situation. Some places are just more dusty than others. Doing a thorough clean can't be a bad thing, plus that way your roommate will also be cleaning up where the cat hair is, which could also be transferring around the house as well. How can I fix my dust problem? No matter what I do, dust returns within a few hours?Get a air cleaner. Get an air purifier or air treatment system. make sure the filters are changes every daylight savings and that your return vents are cleaned properly. Clean upholstry and carpets. Hope this helpsHow can I fix my dust problem? No matter what I do, dust returns within a few hours?get an air purifier. it will filter the air and get rid of alot of the dust. try vacuuming your vents. theres probably dust in there thats getting blown around the airHow can I fix my dust problem? No matter what I do, dust returns within a few hours?Get you an air purifier with ionizer. How can I fix my dust problem? No matter what I do, dust returns within a few hours?I'd take a good hard look at your vacuum cleaner. It's apparently not doing it's job well. And the people who were in the apartment before you could have had the same issue and you've still got dust and dirt lurking from them! An inefficient sweeper is one of the biggest causes of the problem you've got. Invest in a good unit with advanced HEPA filtration. No, you don't have to spend the big bucks on a Dyson. Bissell makes the Healthy Home model that has similar filtration for 1/2 the price. Then when you get a new sweeper, read the manual and keep the sponge filters clean.

To get ahead of the problem, you need to go an extremely thorough cleaning of the entire apartment with the new sweeper. Move everything, sweep slowly and make numerous passes over the same area. You might be very surprised how much %26quot;junk%26quot; you're going to get in a new sweeper. I had owned Hoovers before and thought they did a good job. Wrong! The Bissell got so much more out that the Hoovers had been leaving that I didn't know whether to be grossed out or amazed!

Wipe down everything with a damp (just plain water will do) microfiber cloth. The microfiber cloths wipe more efficiently than anything. I get mine at Sam's Club; a bundle of 24 is less than $10. They are reusable and last forever. Rinse the cloth in clean water frequently.

Check your air filters monthly at the minimum. After you do your thorough cleaning, I'd change them.

You certainly could shampoo all the carpets, that will help get rid of some of the build up of dirt and dust but if your sweeper isn't getting it in the first place, you'll be right back here in a few months. Also think about making your apartment a no shoes inside zone. 80% of the dirt in a home comes in on our feet. Keep slippers by the door.

You might have an allergy to all the excess dust and that is what is keeping your immune system in an uproar. It's busy fighting the allergens and doesn't have enough left over to fight other things. Removing the allergens will help a lot. Perhaps an air purifier for your bedroom? And I think I'd make the roomie smoke her pot elsewhere....... What if she gets busted? You don't want or need that to deal with. And I don't think your landlord would be real happy either. How can I fix my dust problem? No matter what I do, dust returns within a few hours?Dust comes from crapped up junk that's falling apart. See if paint is coming off the walls, if the ceiling is breaking, any antiques that are breaking. These may be the sources of the dust. Get rid of them. If that doesn't work, then clean your whole apartment from ceiling to carpet. That will definitely get rid of dust for a very long time.

Plus, dust shouldn't effect your immune system. It may cause sickness, but it won't make other sicknesses come faster. See your doctor if the problem continues.

Also, tell your friend to stop smoking pot. They're an idiot.

New AC unit keeps getting clogged?

My new AC unit (purchased in 2007) started leaking the first time I changed the air filter, which was only 2 months after I got it. A repairman checked it and said the pipe was clogged. I dont' know how he fixed it, I wish I would have asked.

About 2 months later, I changed the filter again and it started leaking again. I am not sure why this happened.

Anyway, I started researching and figured out how to fix this problem myself by bringing hose inside and flushing out the pipe.

    It works wonderfully now.

The thing I want to ask is,why is this happening to a unit that is brand new?

Why is it leaking only when I change the filter? The repairman said I am using the correct one.

My old AC unit was 15 yrs old before I had to replace it and it NEVER leaked!

Could it be just like they said 'they don't make em as good as they use to' which means EVERYTHING.New AC unit keeps getting clogged? The reason for this is where does that PVC pipe run, can all the pipe be replaced? If not the pipe is as old as the house. New A/C systems are clean and they make more water than the old equipment. I have a A/C company in South Florida and give no warranty on drain lines for this reason. You can pour foaming type of coil cleaner down the pipe to clean out. Be careful with too much pressure on that pipe some A/C guys do not glue all the fittings and if one pops in the wall what a mess. A wet dry vacuum is a good choice.New AC unit keeps getting clogged?possibly due to sudden stop and start of the unit. When you replace the filter, you possibly turn off the AC unit causing condensation on the piping, then you probably turn On the unit after putting the new filter causing the condensed water to freeze up. If this is the case, wait for at least 1-3 hours before turning On the AC after replacing the filter. Or if you can replace the filter while the unit is On (must be careful with this otherwise the filter will be destroyed).New AC unit keeps getting clogged?Something was not done right with the drain.

Probably too small of a drain line, wrong pitch, improperly trapped.

Most all companies provide a one year warranty on their installation, call the company and talk to the owner or manager and have them explain the problem.

Proper installation is the key to a trouble free system.New AC unit keeps getting clogged? The condensate drain pipe, which is what is clogging, will grow mold which attracts dust and clogs. Several years ago my AC man told me to pour a little Clorox (bleach in the drip pan or directly into the drain pipe. This keeps it from growing mold and prevents the clogging. Do it about two or three times during the AC season. Haven't had a problem since.

I got about 30mpg when I brought home the car two years ago but within the last 6 months or so the mileage has gotten worse. The worse mileage I saw was 22mpg I then changed the air filter and oil/oil filter and I recorded 24mpg. Please make suggestions on how I can improve my gas mileage. I had a similar problem with my 03 corolla (mine gave me 24 mpg) then i found out that my wheels are out of balance (you are not gonna feel much difference when your wheels are not balanced unlike the alignment issue) and also do tune-up to your car. Tune-up costs you abt 60$-80$ and balance and allignment costs you about 80$. After i got allignment, wheel balance and tune-up my MPG drastically increased from 24 to 35.Any suggestions as to why I'm only getting 22-24mpg on a 04 Mazda 3i w/50k miles? The main culprit, as in any car that sees a bad drop in gas mileage is the oxygen sensor, which on your car there's 2. There's one before the catalytic converter, one after. The first one should be located on the exhaust manifold or near it, the next should be right after the catalytic converter.

To replace both (and you need to do both) is about $200 but is an easy job. It's pretty much like changing spark plugs...piece of cake.

Do it soon or you will end up ruining your catalytic converter, which is like $500 or $600 each.

    Cool air intake filter?

okay... i purchased a cool air intake on craigs list for my 07' mustang... i got it for 100$.. its only been used for almost a year... now... i want to change the filter on it because its all black and i dont think i have a K %26amp; N intake.... would anyone know how much just the filter would be?Cool air intake filter?go to summitracing.com they will have your filter you are looking forCool air intake filter?Getting a K %26amp; N would not add anything to a true cold air intake. It would be in my opinion a waste, if it is a true cold air, it will be just as open as a K %26amp; N, K%26amp;N is just a brand. It is good brand, but expensive. You can just take off the filter you have, and clean it. They make cleaning solutions for the intake filters.Cool air intake filter?you can always clean it..... take a air hose to it or most of them are washable so just take the water hose to it

HTTP://WWW.VWVORTEX.COM .. I am also a member and will answer all your VW questions and performance needs. You will actually notice more of a difference with cold air intake on your non forced induction engine then a turbo or supercharged engine. The reason for this is that with a turbo or supercharger the air is compressed and in turn heats the incoming air, making it pointless getting a cold air intake cause you are heating the air. If you are into car performance you will be happy with the sound and gains from the cold air intake(CAI).

    Motorcycle Without An Air Filter?

I recently purchased a 1997 Kawasaki Concours off of EBay. Shortly thereafter, I ordered a K%26amp;N permanent air filter in the mail. When I went to install it, I realized that the motorcycle did not have an existing air filter.

The guy I bought it from rarely used the bike, and he did take it in to the mechanic prior to selling it. The mechanic cleaned and synced all four carbs, changed oil, etc.

Both the seller and mechanic blame each other for the absence of the filter.

    My question is this:

I have run the bike for about 1500 miles over the course of three weeks before realizing that there was no air filter. The bike seemed to begin to stutter a little in low RPMs, and I had to adjust the idle RPM because it would die periodically at stop lights.

What is the possible damage to the engine? How can I identify it? What is the best course of action for dealing with this now aside from the obvious use of the K%26amp;N starting now and changing the oil?

Thanks.Motorcycle Without An Air Filter? What is the possible damage to the engine?

Worn pistons, piston rings, and cylinders.

    How can I identify it?

    Do a compression test.

You're probably OK, but do a wet and dry compression test. If it's within specs, look into the intake, carb, and ignition as being possible sources of the inconsistent idle.Motorcycle Without An Air Filter?YOU PROBABLY DIDNT HURT A THING,BUT YOU MIGHT HAVE SOME JETTING ISSUES WITH THE K AND N FILTER,THEY FLOW A LIITLE MORE AIR THAN THE STOCK AND MAY MAKE YOUR BIKE RUN ON THE LEAN SIDE AT LOW RPMMotorcycle Without An Air Filter?Change the oil and filter. Install the new air filter. If you have dusted the engine, it will start using oil. Just keep an eye on the oil level for a while and if it doesn't use a bunch, then you got lucky.Motorcycle Without An Air Filter? The air cleaner does just that, cleans the air before it enters your cylinders. Road dust allowed to enter the cylinder acts as an abrasive to increase ring and cylinder ware. That's over time, got an air cleaner on there now, what's done is done.

The idling problem could be as simple as the mechanic set up the carburetor without the air cleaner on and now with the restriction of an air cleaner you're running a little rich.Motorcycle Without An Air Filter?I know my Harley with a velocity stack will suck leaves and small dogs into the carb, no tellin what you hoovered into the engine.

I have an undergravel filter and I want to change to a normal one...how should I go about it?

The reason is, I want to use sand substrate for my catfish but can't with the undergravel.

Am I right in thinking the best way to do this would be get the filter, leave both running for 4 weeks then remove the undergravel when I do a water change, changing the substrate at the same time and leaving just the normal filter?

Obviously, I'd put most of the water in a bucket with my fish in, then put the filter in there with the fish (running? or not running?) while I quickly change the substrate.

Is this safe? Will transferring the filter from air to water result in an bacteria loss?

The fish will only be in their bucket for a maximum of half an hour by the way - I'm not going to harm my fish!I have an undergravel filter and I want to change to a normal one...how should I go about it?You are right in %26quot;cycling%26quot; your new filter in your current tank. However, once you set up your %26quot;temporary%26quot; home in the bucket, simply put an airstone in with it to keep your oxygen levels up. This is your chance to reset your entire aquarium and as you are setting up a new substarte, you may find the water will be quite cloudy until the new filter has had a chance to %26quot;clean%26quot; the water and the sediment has had a chance to settle (this usually takes about an hour). Try to use a mix of 75% current aquarium water and 25% fresh water (so you don't lose too much bacteria). As for bacteria loss, the beneficial bacteria that changes nitrate into nitrite needs oxygen. That is how the new bio filters work, they expose the surfaces of the filter (where the bacteria live) to open air rather than the old style filters that keep the sponge material immersed in water.I have an undergravel filter and I want to change to a normal one...how should I go about it?I would vacume it with a python water changer or vortex, then take it out.I have an undergravel filter and I want to change to a normal one...how should I go about it?I did the change once for my discus tank. Pretty much just like you have posted and what Ed wrote. I did keep a large portion of the original water in cleaned out milk jugs. for the switch so the change would not be too drastic. I then set up an added cannister filter to help with the filtration and hopefully get a jumpstart from the orighinal bacteria in the water. The tank did great and a good water change always helps. It also made for an easier cleaning of waste on the bottom. One idea is that some people put rubber cement or glue on the bottom and just allow the sand to attach to it making for a barebottom tank with the look of sand. That may not be what your wanting for your catfish though.

  • How will I know if I need a tune up?

    Or a spark plug change?

I have a 2004 Jeep liberty, and it has about 90K miles on it. (It used to be a rental car but I've had it for two years, and it's not given me any trouble. And the carfax report was really good).

But since I've had it, I haven't had a tune up, or anything, only oil changes and air filter changes, and I don't know what I need.

Recently it's been jerking when I accelerate up a hill. Only SOMETIMES though, and it's only a slight jerk then it smooths out, but it's a concern.

    Tune up? Other ideas?

Thanks very much and have a great weekend. How will I know if I need a tune up?I would get a new fuel filter first and plugs.

Also the plug leads and coil pack or distributor checked if that fails to improve things.

If it's an automatic get the gearbox fluid level checked. How will I know if I need a tune up?Find someone who is competent, and have them clean out your PCV valve and hose, your throttle body, and idle air control valve with Gum-out spray. Also, power wash your entire engine compartment, especially the space between the radiator and A/C condenser. Debris always collects here and restricts proper air flow. Check BOTH ends of your battery cables for good connections. After doing all this, drive-ability should have improved. If not, change the plugs, but try using Nippondenso Iridium or Bosch platinum plugs. They are simply designed and produced better and will provide better engine characteristics. The high voltage used in modern car engines for emission control and MPG requirements usually make the spark plugs last longer and retain their gap best. Sometimes, a car that shudders going up hill only requires an adjustment of the transmission cable. Good Luck!!!How will I know if I need a tune up?Usually a tune-up is suggested for 100K-150K miles. So you may be getting close. I would take it to a shot to get it looked at, it is probably not your spark plugs, though. It could be your transmission. If you bring it in, they should tell you what is wrong with it and give you a quote. How will I know if I need a tune up?You may be developing an engine missfire which could be an ignition, or lean/ rich misfire caused by a vacuum leak or emissions related problem. The first thing I would do is have a new set of spark plugs installed and ask the technician to check the plug wires for any corrosion buildup in the contacts that he can clean both at the spark plug and coil tower connections. You also need a new fuel filter if it has never been changed.

Never go into a repair shop asking that a %26quot;tune-up%26quot; be done on your car because it's like writing a blank check for the shop to do a lot of work that you may not need. Stick to the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule and pick and choose individual repairs that are diagnosed as being the problem by a shop. So you would go into the shop and ask them to diagnose your engine misfire once it was bad enough.

sorry......How will I know if I need a tune up?might be a lose plug wireHow will I know if I need a tune up?A tune up is a possibility. You may only need an ignition wire or a spark plug. Then again, it could be something as serious as a fuel pump losing pressure or a slipping transmission. If you are a do-it-yourselfer, try plugs, wires, PCV and an air and fuel filter. Some fuel injection cleaner may help too. If not, take it to someone who knows Jeeps and they can pinpoint the problem that could potentially save you money and headache. At 90K, I would do some type of tune up maintenance. You could also take it to an AUTOZONE outfit and see if you are getting misfire codes from a free scan of codes.

How do i know if i need a new air filter?

When I start my 98 Saturn i smell a sooty smell. Whenever I get the oil changed I ask if it is alright and they say no they will change it if they need to and they don't. Is the smell because of the air filter ? If not then what? How do i know if i need a new air filter?Your air filter is bad if you can't see sunlight through it, or if the inside of the filter is visibly dirty. A soot smell when you're starting is most likely accompanied with a puff of bluish-white smoke out the tailpipe (burning oil).

This can be caused by a plugged-up pcv valve, replace it and see if it's fixed! But the problem is more likely leaky valve guide seals, not at all unusual in an 11-year-old car. Just watch your oil level, and make sure the car is fully warmed up when you take it for inspection. How do i know if i need a new air filter?change it your talking about 5 bucks just change it so you will know. How do i know if i need a new air filter?Change it automatically after 20,000 miles to be sure. You can hold the filter up to the sun and see how much light comes through it, but they aren't that expensive to replace every 20,000 or 25,000 miles at most. You should start writing down what gets changed on your car in the back of your owner's manual so you don't end up paying for it twice. Put the mileage, date and what was serviced and by who etc.How do i know if i need a new air filter?Air filter is for cleaning air provided to Engine, nothing to do with smell.

its replaced when it gets too dusty.

open hood while engine is running , see if u can find whats the source of smell, some times it can be leakage in fuel lines or exhaust fittings

thanksHow do i know if i need a new air filter? The air filter would not cause this at all.

Although I doubt this is the problem all cars have another often overlooked filter.

It is the cabin air filter. It is located under the hood in various places depending on the car. It filters the air going through you ac /heat system for air quality inside the vehicle.

I pasted a web site that sell them, most outlets for car service sell them as well.

Good luckHow do i know if i need a new air filter?I have no idea what a saturn car is , but if a garage says they are changing your oil, they should change it! If you keep running around with dirty oil in your engine, it will start to form lots of carbon deposits around the rings, valve guides etc and will soon start burning oil (blue smoke and so on). The air filter could have some crap in it, due to the oil trying to get rid of water vapour and if the same garage, who claimed to have changed the oil, are responsible, then that will almost certainly not have been replaced! How do i know if i need a new air filter?Do your self a big favor %26amp; change the air filter.

You can do this your self %26amp; they are not very expensive.

Go down to the auto parts store %26amp; pick up an oil filed air filter for your ride.

K%26amp;N or Fram air hogs Are about the best to get.

They only cost about $40.00 bucks or so %26amp; are way better then the oem ( stock ) filtersHow do i know if i need a new air filter?you need to change the cabin air filter, you havent changed it since the car was new and it is not doing its job. the new one will be bright white and the old will be black and full of bugs, leaves, and soot. a cheap %26amp; easy fix for a handy person. i just did mine and it blew my mind at hoe dirty the old one was vs the new and my car is a 2007

Will my 1998 Ford Mustang make it across the country?

My mustang is in good condition, as far as I know. It has never given me any type of problem. It is 11 years old though and I do not know how much longer it will last. I have always kept up on maintenance- oil changes, tires, air filters, etc. I am moving from the East coast to the West coast and I am wondering if it will make it and if it will last me a while after I get there. Will my 1998 Ford Mustang make it across the country? If you have taken care of it and it has never given you problems, I see no reason why the car would not make it. Keep maintaining it and you can drive it for many many years.

Consider taking it to a mechanic for a pre-trip inspection. They can tell you if they find anything wrong or that needs immediate servicing. Might be worth $75 or so to have some peace of mind before you hit the interstates. Will my 1998 Ford Mustang make it across the country? Before you go.

The most common thing going across country are the simple things that go wrong.

Besides tires being in good shape and aired up properly.

Not going over the speed limit tires should be fine in this heat.

Now the easy part you can do at home to be sure that you stay trouble free.

If you never had your cooling system boiled out do it, and have it pressure tested at that time.

Tell them to make sure that the thermostat is working properly.

They can just start it when clod and when it starts to warm up you will be able to look in the hole where the cap was and water will start moving.

Change all rubber hoses heater hoses too.

    And change all belts.

If you do all this and then have you oil changed again when you get to Cali. you should be fine for quite some time if it is running good now.

Have a safe trip. : )Will my 1998 Ford Mustang make it across the country?I would say have it checked out hoses, belt, if you never had transmission fluid and filter changed i would do that and add a qt of lucas transmission treatment. That will prolong the life of the transmission.Drive safe and keep your eye on the heat gage

check you oil when you fill up and it should be fine and last you for a

long time when you get there

Women needs advice / help with Ford Explorer!?

I have a 2002 ford explorer. I know very little about this vehicle. I am very smart and I know basics about vehicles. I owned a neon for years and new everything about it. I am pretty good about fixing things myself. My problem is now I have kids, babies at that so I don't have time to get under the hood any more.

My problem is every time I take it somewhere to get repaired the flippin mechanic rips me off. I know its because I'm a women and I've learned that檚 how it is in my area got over it.

Okay took it to Wal-Mart for a oil change and air filter change. The dude forgot to put the freakin air filter in. So I take it back and tell them they refund me the 8 dollars whatever for the filter. I laughed and asked him that I was concerned that it would have caused a problem with something else. They said oh no no it'll be fine ( I drove like 150 miles before it started jerking and I checked and found no filter) I knew they were lying but I left went home and the check engine light was still on so I started it up like 15 times in a row to reset it but of course it didn't go off. Took it for a diagnostic check (which auto zone did) They couldn檛 read it to me (funny huh?) So I looked it up and have narrowed it down to either my MAF censor or my O2 censors?

My Question to all you people who know about trucks do you think that driving it with no filter caused it (because I do) and if so how (if I can) do I prove it to Wal-Mart? I am so sick of people jackin my truck up and trying to take advantage of me because they think I'm a freakin moron.Women needs advice / help with Ford Explorer!?Well first of all, you are getting screwed over all the time because you probably don't want to pay for an actual ASE Technician to repair your vehicle. People at walmart, auto zone, etc are just young kids making minimum wage and not enough skill or training to actually work at a real shop that all their employee's are factory trained and kept up with training all the time. Thats why we charge more then those places. Just remember, cheaper isn't always better as your finding out. Don't blame all mechanics as %26quot;rip-off artists%26quot;, as good honest mechanics are out there, they do charge for their training and skill though. My suggestion to you- ask your friends who they go to or recommend. You might find they are a bit higher in price, but in the long run, it will pay for itself in the long run.

As for leaving your air filter off, fine particals can enter your engine and put premature wear on your engine, but most likely, the reason your light is on now is that it cause the MAF sensor to build up with lint or dirt, have it cleaned, replace the air filter and you proably will be good to go. ps, the SES lights won't reset now a days by turning the car on and off, they have to be cleared by using a scan-tool hooked up to your computer systemWomen needs advice / help with Ford Explorer!?lack of air filter would not harm the O2 sensor, but it could hurt the MAF sensor.

Wal-Mart does not have mechanics, they have wannabes and never-was people, they do not pay enough to have knowledgeable people - with very few exceptions.Women needs advice / help with Ford Explorer!?run back to wal mart and scream and ***** at them. (tell them youre pmsing) haha. thatll frighten em! then thell them exactly what to do, step by step. use as many technical terms as you can. if they still dont do the job right, sue them. say they were sexist. hey, maybe even get them to let you go in the bay and train the clowns there how to change a damn air filter! my freakin 12 year old brother can change an air filter. and he's spent all of 2 minutes under a car hood. and that was because he dropped a quarter in the engine compartment and was looking for it. haha. as for damages done to the car, there could be a number of foreign contaminants in the engine now. that could cause poor performance and foul up your spark plugs. the filters are there for a reason.Women needs advice / help with Ford Explorer!?I'm confused about how you took it back because there was they didn't change the air filter and got your 8 bucks back but somehow drove for 150 miles without an air filter. Maybe I'm not reading that right. Truthfully some of the cheaper air filters are what cause most problems with the maf sensor. Tiny pieces of the paper element come off the filter and get stuck to the hotwire. Worst part about driving without an air filter would be dust in the rings destroying cylinder wall. Who cares about the maf go steal one from a junkyard. What is the purpose of autozone scanning your car if they don't tell you what they found. At least to try and sell you a part. Weird.Women needs advice / help with Ford Explorer!?Okay that sucks, I sympathise with you. I am a single mom of 2 drive an explorer and have been screwed by walmart mechanics, but not nearly that bad! I was going to suggest you call and speak to the manager then I found this and thought it might help you out.Women needs advice / help with Ford Explorer!?I can not say for certain that not having the air filter installed caused the problem but if you were not having any problems before it is a good possibility the maf sensor which is the mass air flow sensor. It could have given a bad reading to the computer and tried to adjust for all the air that was being taken in and kicked the check engine light on. Disconnect the neg. side of the battery for a minimum of two minutes and then reconnect and start the vehicle and see if it cleared the light. If it does not I would take it back to walmart and make them clear the code and see if it stays out. This is assuming you have the air filter in the vehicle at present. I would talk only to the manager of there service department if they give you crap get notarized copies from two techs from other reliable shops and take them to small claims court and make them pay. You at least have to give them the option of seeing if they can correct there mistake before you take them to court.

How Often Should I Change My Furnace Filter?

I went out and bought a really good disposable 3M Hepa furnace filter a few months ago that cost about $20.

I also have an Oreck XL air cleaner that seems to work well with cigar and cooking odors.

Should I really buy the most expensive filter and how often should it be changed? How Often Should I Change My Furnace Filter?Well that depends on what the environment is like in your home! Generally, I would recommend every 3 months- even perhaps sooner especially if you're using your system quite often. As for the type of filter to use, I like pleated with a Merv 7 - 11 rating. Supplementing with the Oreck XL is a good move too,....I have 3 in my home and they work great!!How Often Should I Change My Furnace Filter? It really depends on what you're expecting out of your filter. If you want it to filter out cigar and cooking odors as well as dust and airborne junk, then you're going to need the expensive pleated HEPA type stuff, to do that, and you're going to need to change them frequently. If you're looking for, as we are, something to keep the majority of dust and particles out of the air so we don't have to breathe them in, then you can do with a much less expensive filter, probably made of fiberglass with a cardboard outer shell and change them once a month through the heating season. That means, 4 or 5 filters for the winter here, at a cost of about $1.25 - $1.40 each means maybe $7.00 for the season. How Often Should I Change My Furnace Filter? Its a good idea to check your filter once a month and change as needed. 1%26quot; thick pleated filters last UP TO 3 months. During extreme weather or if you run your fan a lot, you will need to change it more often. I generally advise people against using the expensive 3M filters. Brand new and right out of the package, they are restrictive to air flow which could cause problems to your equipment. You are much better off purchasing the cheaper pleated filters and changing them more often.

  • My Car Won't Go Over 4500RPM's and Lost Some "Pick Up & Go." What's the Problem?

I have a 2000 Chevrolet Camaro v6 (Manual Transmission 5-speed). I have about 100k miles on the car and it has ran perfectly the whole time I've owned it with the only maintenance I've done was a new clutch, tires, and regular oil changes/air filters.

How it happened: I was being stupid and raced to another street light against another car. In 3rd gear my RPM's decided to bottom out at 4,500RPM's. This was the first time that ever happened (it always could go to about 7,000 RPM's if I really needed the horsepower to speed up). Ever since that day my car's performance has been lacking. The pick up and go is not as great as it was. The RPM's still bottom out at 4500RPM's on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear (I haven't tried 5th).

I definitely want to get this fixed but before I go for a diagnosis can anyone tell me what to expect? What is it? About how much? Thank youMy Car Won't Go Over 4500RPM's and Lost Some %26quot;Pick Up %26amp; Go.%26quot; What's the Problem?Could be the catalytic converter restricting the exhaust flow. How can I get rid of this RINGWORM/DERMOPHYTES.?

HELP! I have been battling this nasty rash for 2 years. I adopted a cat who was being treated for ringworms. He was on oral antifungal meds. Well shortly after I got one on my chest. Went to the doc..it cleared up. About a year later I started really battling them. One tiny spot would pop up and I would rub prescribed cream on it. I know what to look for and feel for now. The cat was taken back to vet and tested..NOTHING. I was told to bleach my house...I do it about three times a week. DOUSING EVERYTHING in bleach and cleaning my cats toys. I literally clean my house from head to toe. I went to the dermotologist ..more cream. Changed air filters washed sheets towels etc. EVERYTIME I GET RID OF A BUMP..another one pops up. I have tried BLEACH ALCOHOL PEROXIDE TEA TREE OIL CREAMS LIQUID BAND AIDS VINEGAR ...and the list goes on and on. Been back to dermotologist and said prescribed me more cream. The things I try help the ringworn to dissappear but it comes right back in another place.WHAT CAN I POSSIBLY DO?!?! THIS IS STARTING TO CONSUME MY LIFE!How can I get rid of this RINGWORM/DERMOPHYTES.?It sounds to me that you are not totally eradicating the fungus when you are treating yourself. Remember that the dermatophyte infection is spread by spores that get onto your skin and then begin to %26quot;set up housekeeping%26quot; on your skin, and develop into the ringworm infection. When it is doing this %26quot;setting up%26quot;, it doesn't show itself as ringworm yet. Thus, by using the cream only on the spots that have shown up, you are probably missing the areas where the spores have landed on your skin, but have not yet shown up as ringworm. The best way to treat all areas, both those that are showing and those that are incubating, is to treat you with an ORAL antifungal agent, rather than just a cream. There are a couple of good ones on the market, but I have found that itraconazole works better for cat ring worm than terbinafine or ketaconazole. Perhaps your dermatologist would prescribe the oral treatment for you, rather than just a cream. How can I get rid of this RINGWORM/DERMOPHYTES.?I've done some research on Wikipedia and this is what I found....

Ringworm is a fungal infection of the skin in humans. Fungi are organisms that survive by eating plant or animal material. Those that cause parasitic infection (dermatophytes) feed on keratin, the material found in the outer layer of skin, hair, and nails. These fungi thrive best on skin that is warm and moist. It is estimated that in current times, up to twenty percent of the population is infected by ringworm or one of the other dermatophytoses. It is especially common among people who play sports, wrestling in particular. Fungi thrive in moist, warm areas, such as locker rooms and swimming pools, and in skin folds. The fungi may be present without any symptoms.

Advice often given to prevent ringworm includes:

    * Avoidance of sharing clothing, sports equipment, towels, or sheets.

    * Washing clothes in hot water with fungicidal soap after suspected exposure to ringworm.

    * Avoidance of walking barefoot, wearing of appropriate protective shoes to the beach and flip-flops (thongs) in locker rooms.

    * After being exposed to places where the potential of being infected is great [5], one should wash with an antibacterial and anti-fungal soap.

There's also some good information on this website about how one person with severe Ringworm finally beat it -- http://www.treatingringwormnaturalcures.com/?hop=info1htm

Do you own a dodge sprinter?

    Servicing a BMW?

How much would I be looking at to get regular maintenance on a 2000 BMW 328, such as...

    oil changes,

    air filters,

    all fluids,

    spark plugs,

    hoses.

Thanks!Servicing a BMW?Find a good independent BMW specialist. Dealer is too pricey and BMWs need someone familiar with the car.

Oil Service is about $90 at the dealer $50 at a good independent BMW mechanic. You do that once a year or about every 15,000 miles.

Brake fluid flush is every two years. $200

    Transmission and diff fluids are %26quot;lifetime%26quot;

Air filter you can do yourself.

Spark plugs are only every 100,000 miles. O2 sensor has to be changed at the same time. I've never paid to have that done, so I don't know the price.

By the time the hoses go, you need to replace the radiator, water pump and thermostat as well. $600 from a good independent. Every 7-8 years. For a 2000 it will either have just had it done or it will need it very soon.Servicing a BMW?I would actually find a local guy that works with european cars.

I went to the BMW dealer for the first time and the guy there gave me the best advice...As soon as your maintenance is up...get rid of the car and buy a new one.

BMW labor charges are outrageous.Servicing a BMW?Most local mechanics can doe this sort of maintenance without taking to BMW dealer. The prices are different, so it is hard to say. call around to local mechanics and dealerships and find the average cost for said work. This will give you an idea of what price range you are looking at.Servicing a BMW?I just take mine to the dealer which I got it from. They pretty much check all the fluids and change what needs to be changed and the usual oil changes are about $40.00 as well as the air filters, the rest you cant really tell, but not a lot of people service bmw's in Puerto Rico so it might be different for you.Servicing a BMW?if you list yr servicing as you have mentioned above. You will pay a high price.

Now you find a local good mechanic and ask for a quote.

1)to change lub oil filter and lub oil.

2)to top up fluids if low level

3)ask them to check the existing plugs,if requires renewal.

4)Tell them to check the hoses,if gone bad, then change.otherwise not to change.

5)if auto check the ATF and top up.

When u say top up,a good mechanic will recommend if renewal needed.

Standy about USD200/- for the service.

I can guess and say it might be an option, as these are fairly new tech wise for these years. Anyway, a couple of spots that it could be located, could be under the passenger side dash.(recommend a flshlight to see better), or under the hood on the passenger side of the car. According to alldatapro.com, it could be done in 15 minutes. So it most likely could be similar to an air filter look, but it would be a HEPA kind. Hope this helps somewhat. Just remeber, if you can't find it, it might not have been in your car, as an option from the factory.

    Whats wrong with my Blazer?

I have a 1994 Chevy S10 Blazer with a V6 vortec engine. The problems I have are very little acceleration, a %26quot;service engine%26quot; light that comes on when I reach and exceede 50 MPH and stays on until I decellerate below 45 MPH. Also I'm having trouble reaching 55 MPH. When I try to push the gas peddal to accelerate, it will make the car slow down and eventully make it %26quot;die.%26quot; When It %26quot;dies%26quot;, all the lights on the dash come on, the power steering goes, and the breaks are very hard to push, and it will just stall out. Sometimes it starts right back up, but other times it takes about 5 mins to restart the car.

I've taken it to 3 mechanics, and they told me to change the spark plugs (I did-didnt work), change the fuel filter (did, still didnt work) and to get an oil change and air filter change (did, and STILL didn't work).

Do I have a central air conditioning problem?

I just purchased a brand new home in south MS where we have very hot and humid summers. This is my 1st home and I know absolutely nothing about Central Air other than how to change a filter. I keep my AC off from 9 am - 4 pm, due to extremely high power bill - $240 for 1100 sq ft home, I DO NOT use a lot of power. I have heard from different people that you should keep your AC off when not home to save power and I've heard the opposite that you should keep it running because it uses a lot of power to lower a drastic amount of temperature. Which raises another question the disc on the power meter takes anywhere from 4-9 seconds to revolve when AC is on, when off it takes about 30 seconds to revolve, is this normal? As an example today I got home at 4:15 pm, AC is off, disc revolving slow, inside temp. is 83 degrees. It is now 2 hours later, disk is going 9 seconds to revolve, temp. is 81 degrees. Other day it took 3 hrs to go down 1 degree. I am concerned there may be a problem w/ AC.Do I have a central air conditioning problem? You do have a problem with the air conditioning systems. A properly sized ac system will drop the temperature in the structure at least 2 degrees per hour when it is under full load. Call an HVAC service company to check for a problem.Do I have a central air conditioning problem?if you recently bought the house the a/c was probably checked.. see if your realetor has that info. as for the electric useage Yea they suck power when on. The problem with leaving it off during the day is if its over around 85 during the day youre going to use more power to cool EVERYTHING down once you start it back up. Youre having to cool the walls the furniture , everything IN the house its almost always cheaper to turn it up to around 80 or so and leave it on to cycle, unless your house wistles when the wind blows. (not sealed well).Do I have a central air conditioning problem? You should have a reputable HVAC company in your area give your central Air a good clean and check, just to give you the peace of mind that everything is ok.

Air conditioners work by first removing the humidity in the house and then lowering the ambient air temp.

If you turn your A/C off during the day and back on again when you get home from work, you have to get rid of all the days humidity you let back into the house during the day before you lower the temp.

You are better off just raising the setting of your thermosat a few degrees while you are gone to keep the humidity down, and keep the A/C from running so hard when you get home.

You could look into a programmable thermostat.Do I have a central air conditioning problem?Check air temperature of closest register to furnace. It should be between,55 %26amp; 65 degrees. If there is duct work in the attic,it should be insulated.

You shouldn't turn off the A/C,just adjust the thermostat up because everything in your house will have to give up the heat it absorbs when the unit is off.Do I have a central air conditioning problem?several things could be wrong first you should get a program able thermostat installed and program it for a 10degree shift when you are not home second have you checked the filter is it clean if not then change it third the return duct is probably in a central location make sure all doors are open to allow warm air to return to furnace to get cooled again this will help to keep all rooms the same temp.how about the outside compressor is it clean are there vegetation growing around it this unit needs air to help cool down the coils, in the spring have somebody that knows what they are doing clean this outside compressor A little maintenance goes a long way.
