17.5 hp Briggs and stratton sputters and dies after 20 minutes of use?

Acts like a fuel starvation problem but cannot seem to correct issue, after it dies the first time the running gets exponentially shorter each time until it engine cools. Have another mower with identical engine and set up but it does not suffer from same issues even after several years of abuse. Problem child sounds like it has a stuck valve will a sticking valve result in reduced fuel flow due to loss of vacuum? Still trying to understand how the system works without shelling out the dough for a manual. I have change fuel and air filter changed plugs traced wiring searching for short down to the point of switching parts with other mower. This belongs to grandfather and he has had it to 4 different mechanics to no avail they have all said it was fixed my guess is they did not let it run long enough. Any help would be appreciated thanks in adavance.17.5 hp Briggs and stratton sputters and dies after 20 minutes of use?Try looking at replacing the ignition coil. Sounds like the coil is warming up and the wires are then expanding, and shorting out. We had this happen to a customer and the problem sounded exactly like yours. We replaced the coil and it solved the problem.17.5 hp Briggs and stratton sputters and dies after 20 minutes of use?it sounds like something is failing due to heat17.5 hp Briggs and stratton sputters and dies after 20 minutes of use?Sounds like it's vapor locking.

This is when the fuel evaporates before it can reach the cylinder.

If possible, try to mount a piece of sheet metal between the carb %26amp; the engine to deflect the heat from the engine %26amp; see if that helps.

Hope this was helpful, good luck!!17.5 hp Briggs and stratton sputters and dies after 20 minutes of use? They key here seems to be the engine heat. Sounds like it is effecting the fuel system, either overheating heating the fuel line or the carb. Most likely the fuel line. Try runing the fuel line well clear of the engine, and a longer fuel line if need be to do so. You can find some suitable clear tubing at your local hardware store.17.5 hp Briggs and stratton sputters and dies after 20 minutes of use?it might be dirt and grass clippings in the cooling fins on the cylinder, causing it to overheat. have you pulled the shields and covers off and blown them out with an air gun? something similar was happening to my mom's rider and it drove me nuts until i found this out. a friend found that a mouse had nested in his mower over the winter, and it clogged up his cooling fins. the over heating thing seems to bother briggs engines, i've found the cleaner that i keep mine the better it runs. good luck, hope this helps.
