Skoda Felicia pick up over fueling problem?

hey guys..

not sure how to solve an over fuelling problem on my 1.3 lxi skoda pick up....

have just changed the air filter. when i took it off it smelt of petrol...

.the dipstick smelt of petrol also and im getting crap MPG.

ive heard changing the temperature sensor might help..not sure how that will help though.

any ideas??Skoda Felicia pick up over fueling problem?are you meaning that your oil smells of fuel?

  • Chores to remember during the year?

You know how you're supposed to check the batteries in your smoke alarm when you change your clocks? What are some other little chores like that that need to be done once or twice a year (and are commonly forgotten) and how often/when are you supposed to do them? Like clean under the fridge or change your air filters.Chores to remember during the year?I do all my checks and filters and under fridge type stuff on the three's. 3 - 6 - 9 - 12 month. Don't forget to check your fire extinguishers.Chores to remember during the year?Switch out the baking soda in the fridge if you use it.Chores to remember during the year?Clean the gutters....

It always cracks me up when I see plants growing from gutters that haven't been cleaned in so long, that the leaves have turned into dirt!!

Drain some water from the lower spigot on your water heater once a year. This helps to remove sediment that accumulates there.

Get yourself a dryer exhaust brush, and clean that of lint once a year too.

What are "points" on a motorcycle engine?

Where are they and how easy is it to change them?

I have a 1992 Suzuki DR 250 that dies every now and then. A buddy of mine suggested I should install a new spark plug, change points, air filter, fuel filter, etcetera. I don;t know anything about %26quot;points%26quot; though. When I look them up on Motorcycle part websites do I search for %26quot;points%26quot; or is that slang?

ThanksWhat are %26quot;points%26quot; on a motorcycle engine?Points are a ignition part . Your bike does not have them. Try having the carb cleaned, more specific the pilot jet . This may help your idling situation. What are %26quot;points%26quot; on a motorcycle engine?dont look em up, you dont have em im almost positive newbie, your friend is yanking your chain.

points and condenser repeatedly energizes and collapses the primary ignition circuit in your coil, causing the secondary ignition to hit through i believe its called induction.(im probably wrong on the term induction and someone will let me know)What are %26quot;points%26quot; on a motorcycle engine?Points are KETTERING IGNITION, Current flows thru the points and collapses when the points open, this change in current causes the coil to discharge. But uncommon in '92What are %26quot;points%26quot; on a motorcycle engine?idontgiv is correct. I don't think your bike has points, but I'm not certain. The term you are looking for is %26quot;ignition contact points.%26quot; Good luck with it.What are %26quot;points%26quot; on a motorcycle engine?Search for ignition points

How do you increase the maximum speed of a single cylinder sohc gearless engine?

what are the factors that govern the max speed of a engine will changing the air filter or carb to a high performance one will helpHow do you increase the maximum speed of a single cylinder sohc gearless engine? You will make some marginal gains by doing this.

To make more significant gains, you will need to port and polish the cylinder head. Install a high performance camshaft. Increase the compression ratio and use a higher octane fuel. Add a big bore kit with a larger piston. Enlarge the intake manifold and use a larger carburetor. Add a high performance exhaust header and muffler.

Unless there is a specific reason to keep this small engine such as racing sanctioning body rules, it is usually much more cost effective to sell the small engine and buy something with a larger more powerful engine. Small engines can be very expensive to modify to get only marginal horse power gains. How do you increase the maximum speed of a single cylinder sohc gearless engine?Same as you would do to any other 4-stroke engine. Although balancing all the moving parts is a good starting point with a single cylinder motor. From there you can flow the head, cut the cam ect.

How can I fix ice build-up on the pipes and compressor in the outdoor unit of my air conditioner?

I have a central air conditioner and the pipe from the outside unit to the house has ice building up around it as well as the big compressor inside the unit. I've looked around and most things say low on coolant, but I had a guy out to look at it a few years ago and he said it was fine. Can it get low that quick? Also, I regularly change the air filters so its not that.

We notice the temperature slowly rising inside the house and we know its the ice on the A/C. Is there some way I can fix this without paying some guy to take a look at it, or is that the only option? Any advice you may have is greatly appreciated...it's hot! Thanks! How can I fix ice build-up on the pipes and compressor in the outdoor unit of my air conditioner?A lot of things can happen in two years. As mentioned, the system could be low on refrigerant, the evaporator coil could be dirty, etc. The best thing to do right now is to turn the thermostat to %26quot;off%26quot; and set the %26quot;auto/on%26quot; switch to %26quot;on%26quot; so that just the indoor blower runs. That will help thaw out the system quicker. Let it run like this for a least an hour or two. Without being there to check the refrigerant charge or the system operation, it's really difficult to fix and A/C over the Internet. After it thaws out, run your system as you normally do. If you have an accurate thermometer, check the temperature at the return air and the temperature of the air coming out of the evaporator coil. The split should be between 16-20 degrees. If it's less than 16 degrees, chances are it's low on refrigerant. If it's more than 20 degrees, you've got airflow issues (dirty evaporator coil). Other than that, there's not much more you can do other than have the system serviced. Good luck! How can I fix ice build-up on the pipes and compressor in the outdoor unit of my air conditioner? You are overrunning the unit and have the thermostatat set too lowHow can I fix ice build-up on the pipes and compressor in the outdoor unit of my air conditioner?Your filter could be very dirty or the evaporator coils are dirty causing reduced air flow across the coil. If not, the charge of refrigerant is low.How can I fix ice build-up on the pipes and compressor in the outdoor unit of my air conditioner?Your unit is running too much. You need to have it serviced. Anything can happen over a few YEARS.How can I fix ice build-up on the pipes and compressor in the outdoor unit of my air conditioner?A few years? You can loose refrigerant in a few days or sooner if the leak is large enough. Since it is freezing up, that tells me it hasn't lost all its charge but it has lost a significant amount. Turn off the a/c so the coil thaws and call a technician. If it is iced up when he arrives, you will be charged for extra time to thaw the coil. How can I fix ice build-up on the pipes and compressor in the outdoor unit of my air conditioner? It could also depend on where you are in the country and what time you notice this...if its too cool outside the same thing could happen. How can I fix ice build-up on the pipes and compressor in the outdoor unit of my air conditioner?Low freon- more than likely. How can I fix ice build-up on the pipes and compressor in the outdoor unit of my air conditioner? An old trick to see if a unit is low on freon is to cover the evaporation coils with cardboard. If the unit frosts up all the way back to the compressor their IS enough freon in the system. So what is the solution? Clean the evaporation coils! Get in there and remove the hair dust and slime that has built up on the evaporator over the years. Then spray foaming cooling coil cleaner non-rinse formula on that A coil. The foam will draw out the deepest muck from 10000 years of funk my brother. Then the foam will go down into the drain and open it at well. So no rinsing is needed. How can I fix ice build-up on the pipes and compressor in the outdoor unit of my air conditioner? The only thing that CAN cause your condition is low refrigerant. The system should actually be checked yearly - well, at least here in Texas - but ABSOLUTELY it can lose charge on the refrigerant %26quot;that quickly%26quot;.

Actually - the system SHOULD be a %26quot;closed%26quot; system...meaning that in a normal condition, it should only need refrigerant (even in Texas) every 4 or 5 years. Any faster than that? You got a leak. Not uncommon - and generally quite repairable.

In my opinion, you MUST address that. NOT doing so is bad for the system, bad for your comfort, your energy bill AND the environment!

Got spark got fuel/air and my cr 125 still wont start?

i,ve come too a dead end with my dirt bike, the engine refuses to fire up.i,ve changed the air filter, plug and had the carb cleaned but it still wont run.even when i try to bump start it it just bogs no matter what throttle position. ive checked the spark which is fine, ive even sprayed easy start into directly into the carb but still wont kick over.ive checked the reeds, looked into the cylinder through the reed intake which looks fine there's no oil in the cylinder or on plug. the only thing i think it could be now is the piston rings, there is compression there but how much i don't no? also back fires occasionally. could someone give me a point in the right direction before i strip down the head thanks.

oh buy the way its got good fuel in it and ive not long got so dont know how old the piston and rings are.Got spark got fuel/air and my cr 125 still wont start?its probably compression. remove the spark plug, and if you dont have access to a compression tester, have someone kick it over while you put your finger over the hole. if it blows your finger off every kick, (just a nice easy kick- not kicking furiously) it should have enuf compression. if you can hold it back with your finger, its dead.Got spark got fuel/air and my cr 125 still wont start? You haven't said the year of your bike so I'm guessing it's an old one where the timing needs to be set. • Who's responsible for removing air filter?

I went to Jiffy Lube and got my oil change. They told me I need a new air filter. They told me that the bolts were stripped and couldn't take that one off.Since they were the only place I ever took to get an oil change and I do have the papers showing that they put the last one on,shouldn't they pay if I have to take it elseware to have it taken off.Any body have an idea on how to do it without going to a car place?Who's responsible for removing air filter?Talk to the manager about this. He should look at the computer and tell that they are the ones doing all the work. If you get no where then call the corporate people. Let them know this. this not a hard job by no means for someone like me. They should make it right to be able to keep your business though. Especially something as easy as this. Just let the manager know you plan on calling corporate if you do not get satisfaction from him.Who's responsible for removing air filter?Jiffy Lube sucksWho's responsible for removing air filter?I don't understand.. you didn't say what kind of car..

the head is srtipped... or the threads are actually stripped?

anyway... just drill it out and if the threads are messed up re-tap them...

don't understand why jiffylube couldn't do that for you.Who's responsible for removing air filter?Your right, and they are liable for the stripped bolts on the housing. You need to get in touch with the home office of Jiffy Lube and file a complaint about that shop, they are just trying to dodge having to repair the damage to your car. That paper will have the name of the person who did the work that time and chances are they got rid of him for shoddy work and don't want to have to pay for it because there is no one they can 'dock' for the cost of repairs. Make them repair it before you go anywhere else, get names when you talk to the home office too.Who's responsible for removing air filter?Ask to speak with the manager and show him the receipts as proof of the fact that they were the ones that stripped the bolt. They should take responsibility for this and have it repaired for you. After you talk to the manager if they won't help you then you need to contact the better business bureau and report them. You only other defense is to sue them in civil court for the cost of repairing the stripped bolt after you have it repaired elsewhere.

HOW CAN I GET MORE TORQUE OUT OF MY STOCK MUSTANG?

ok i just bought a project 3.8 liter mustang convertible. it has a decent take off but I want MORE and i have no idea on what to do to make it take off faster. I've read that changing air filter to a high performance but then again i think that only gives you like 1hp. so i'm kindda stuck i wish i would have bought a GT instead but now i got this and i'm trying to do the best that i can with it but don't know where to start.HOW CAN I GET MORE TORQUE OUT OF MY STOCK MUSTANG?this is a bit of a big questuion to answer i mean there so many different answers depending on budget, knowledge, and how big you want to go. obviously a 302 swap would be the way to gain the most but might not be the way you want to go. A good tune up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor) helps if its an auto a trans service will make sure its tranfering the power better. check the gear ratio in the rear end im guessing its 3.73 which is what i run in both my stangs but you could go up to a 4.11 gear for a bit more launch off the line. clean air filter for sure. maybe have a fuel system cleaning done. everything ive said so far minus the gears or swapping in a 302 is not a %26quot;power adder%26quot; its more of a way to bring it back to the way it ran new. as for adding some power nitrous is a personnel favorite of mine (way better than the movies) but it can lead to premature engine failure if you go to big or if you dont build the motor to handle the bigger shot. you could try lightening up the car a bit. the convertable is heavier than a regular mustang any weight you can get out of it will help your launch. exaust is a good place to start to.putting a larger exaust on will help the motor breath as well as make it sound better.

like i said you have to make a desicion on how far you want to go and then commit to it. with ANY car the amount of money you can spend is endless and i find the only way to save any is with mechanical knowledge and smart decisions about what you want to achieveHOW CAN I GET MORE TORQUE OUT OF MY STOCK MUSTANG?get a cold air intake.

it will load you up with horsepower.

    get nice sticky tires.

unload it from some weight. stangs are heavy. make it light!

if you dont use the back seats take them out!, get rid of your extra wheel in the back.

get a new header, performance one.

get a new exhaust. the wider the better.

good luck manHOW CAN I GET MORE TORQUE OUT OF MY STOCK MUSTANG?K and N FIPK adds about 7 hp AT THE WHEELS, this is about 10 hp at the crank. Try having your heads ported, (also more airflow). This can be done with a Dremel/rotary tool and is only labor and a gasket kit (to put the heads back on) . Exhaust headers, downpipe, performance cat and muffler will also help. These should also make your car more fuel efficient as well. The first 2 are cheaper, and the exhaust stuff can be done a little at a time.

Don't just change the filter, change the intake setup to pick up cold, dense air.

    Crappy car mileage.!!?

    Hi All

I have a 2001 hyundai elantra which I think is guzzling lots of gas. Just out of curiosity, is it reasonable to expect a car maintain its mileage rating as it gets older (assuming that the car is well maintained etc..etc). IF not, how different mileage rating will get (on average).

Anyway my problem is that I am getting worse and worse mileage for my car. It seems like I can see that the fuel gauge move (down) while driving even after travelling just around 6-7 miles. I noticed that this gas usage is worse when there is a lot of hill climbs and fast acceleration in a stop/go traffic. If I was to be maintaining steady speed, then the usage is more reasonable.

I regularly have the car serviced and looked into the obvious stuff (e.g. changing air filters, fuel filter and tyre pressure) but it does not seem to make any difference. I even tried using those fuel system cleaner additive (the one you add to the gas tank) to clean the injectors ect. It seems to work for a while but the effect is gone after refilling. Does anyone have suggestions what I should check ?

thanksCrappy car mileage.!!?well for starters that estimated %26lt;----- estimated miles per galon ratio they put on the window is wrong if it says 34 miles to the gallon thats because the car is 100% perfect tires **** and span engine clean air filter and even then they are shaving points so they can sell more cars if it says 34 miles to the gallon you might as well call it about 31 witch may not sound like a big deal but if you have 10 gallon engine and a 3 mile per gallon difference its a 30 mile loss you have witch is a long walk lol if you dont clean your engine yes i would expect it to drop i dont mean just changing oil cause in the end your just putting clean oil into a dirty nasty dicusting oil pan not to metion every thing inside that engine tire pressure affects gas milage as does the air filter if you keep those in check you should be at 90% of what they originally promissed if they promissed 34 new at 10 yrs id explect 29mpg if well taken care of, my advice to you is next time you get your oil changed ask them if they have any of the engine cleaning treatments for your engine it will cost you about 80 bucks maybe more but it cleans the sludge out your engine your car will thank you for it, and another possibility with your car you may have a gas leak somewhere if you feel its really that badCrappy car mileage.!!?Every car has a higher fuel consumption when driving through hills or when accelerating fast in a stop/go traffic. If you want a lower gas milage, buy a Diesel car and you often save more than 30% gas.Crappy car mileage.!!?well if you have done a tune up lately and didnt help what about fuel type your using or maybe try auto zone ask them to scan it might show a problem you cant see

How can i jam my speedfight 2 clutch case to remove it?

How can i jam my clutch case on my speedfight 2 50cc 55 plate to remove the nut as it spins if i dont jam it. i have tried using the brake but its not eough to jam it. also would taking out the tube in my airfilter make a difference to the performance or changing the air filter??? thanks for helpingHow can i jam my speedfight 2 clutch case to remove it?A new air filter alway improves airflow and can give a little more power for a while. If you are changing the air filter be careful as you could lean off the mixture and in the worst case cause your engine to seize. The main jet will need changing to suit the filter.

I have a bbk cold air intake i wanted to know every when do i clean or change my filter and how do i clean it?

MOst cold air kits come with cleanable filters (ie you dont have to throw them away). I would at least blow the dust off at every oil change, and use the cleaner/oiler kit at every other oil change.

  • Advise please on servicing a Mercedes.?

I have a Mercedes Vaneo, which you have probably never seen; I have only ever seen two other cars like this. I have had it from new and it檚 done about 18,000 miles. It is due for a service and an M.O.T, I rang the Mercedes garage to book it in and I asked how much that this would cost.

I nearly choked when they said that it would cost 672. They then went on to explain what was involved, it檚 classed as a B service and I was told that they would need to do the following, regardless of the mileage.

    Change the spark plugs,

Change the gear box oil and filters.

    Change air and fuel filters.

    Replace brake fluid.

Eventually they reduced this to 573. I rang another garage and told them what needed to be done; they said that they may not have the correct equipment for this. As far as this question is concerned the model of my car may be irrelevant, however it would appear that only Mercedes can do a service on a Mercedes. Perhaps someone can advise me if any other garages can carry out a service on my car and if the cost from Mercedes is fair. I live in the north east of England.

Incidentally I had several repairs carried out under the guarantee which were unsatisfactory, consequently I have lost faith in them.Advise please on servicing a Mercedes.?I have seen many Vaneo but they are not common that is true.

mecedes dealers think their product is better than some and continue to project that by charging high parts and service charges - it has always been thus.

Provided it is serviced in accordance with the schedule and Mecedes parts are used any Vat registered garage can service it and it will not invalidate the warranty.

There will be a few ex Merc dealer mechanics around and you may have to search the yellow pages or yell.com to try to locate themAdvise please on servicing a Mercedes.?Sounds like a typical Mercedes bill to me. I was in the same situation for my Nissan and my wife's Ford Fiesta. Nissan were asking 400 for a full service but a Volvo specialist offered to fully service my vehicle for 157, due to the amount of oil the car takes. GOOD VALUE TOO !!

Try to take it to a prestige car specialist or another manufacturer specialist such as a Ford or Volvo specialist.Advise please on servicing a Mercedes.?its an appropriate price if you're servicing it at the dealership. but you do not need to go to a mercedes dealership to do the following on your vehicle. just get the spark plugs at the dealership and take your car to a mechanic you trust and it will save you money! but it is time consuming so you will still have to spend around 300.

trust me all those things are not something you have to take your car to the dealership for. good luck! :)Advise please on servicing a Mercedes.?Why the bloody hell would you buy something that hideous!Advise please on servicing a Mercedes.?Sounds about right for Mercedes to be honest...

Trouble with these cars (and BMW's and the like) you need special tools to get at a lot of the parts....although an air filter change and oil changes shouldbe relatively easy - even for a small back street garage.

Replacing the brake fluid is an easy job as it only requires bleeding out the old fluid and replacing it.

Any local garage should be able to do those jobs for at least half that cost....

To put it into perspective - I own a Rover and a Honda....Honda wanted 270 for a similar service to yours - without the brake fluid being done.

My local garage (owned by a now long time friend) - charged me 100 for a FULL service which included the following.

Spark Plugs - Oil change - new brake pads - Pollen filter - Air con service and a FULL valet...

My advice - find a good local garage and save a fortune

Should I replace the coil pack on my 2000 Plymouth Neon with 55k miles?

I bought the car used many years ago. It runs a bit rough, especially in colder weather. This is more noticeable during idle and not while driving.

It will sometimes stall out when the car is cold, turned on, and then put into reverse. This stall out can be prevented by giving it a lot of gas. However, this is the only time this has stalled out.

I have kept up all maintenance on the car and recently changed the air filter, spark plugs, and spark plug wires.

Before I spend a lot of money for the coil pack, does anyone think that this will help?

If so, how hard is it to replace it? Is it a matter of unscrewing the old one and putting the new one on, or is it harder than that?

Thanks.Should I replace the coil pack on my 2000 Plymouth Neon with 55k miles?Have a scan done of your stored trouble codes, if you go to Auto Zone they will run a scan free. Then you will find out whats wrong. You may have changed plugs that didn't need changing. Always try to get a scan done before you start buying parts. You could have a bad sensor, or a myriad of other problems having nothing to do with the ignition system. Mechanic for 37 yearsShould I replace the coil pack on my 2000 Plymouth Neon with 55k miles? Before spending the money on something that you're not sure will fix it, have it checked out.

You can try the local parts stores, but if their scanners won't tell anything about it, you will have to take it to the dealership repair shop, or a good local independent shop. Soemtimes, there will be a problem that just won't store a code. The dealership personnel will usually have more experience in them and know what to look for (like carbon build-up in the throttle body, which could be the problem).

Most shops will charge a 1-hour check-out fee, which can be anywhere from about $70 to about $100 depending on local labor rates. This will be money well spent to find the real cause of the problem instead of replacing one part after another trying to fix it.Should I replace the coil pack on my 2000 Plymouth Neon with 55k miles?that doesn't sound like a coil pack bad on it,it sounds more like a sensor going out on it,before you spend anything on it why don't you take it to auto zone or advance and let them scan the computer on it,this will tell you if you have any bad sensors on it,its way better than buying parts and putting on it,not knowing if they will fix it or not, have it scanned then they can tell you probably whats bad on it,good luck with it.Should I replace the coil pack on my 2000 Plymouth Neon with 55k miles?I've seen the throttle body with carbon build up cause stalling out when cold. Sound like this may your problem. hope this helpsShould I replace the coil pack on my 2000 Plymouth Neon with 55k miles?no. it is easy to change but doubtful it would help. check the throttle body for lots of carbon build up. clean as needed. my 3.9 dakota (known for rough idle issues) straightened up a lot after applying a really good TB cleaner and some combustion chamber cleaner (good ole mopar stuff too!).

Is there a trick to closing the air filter housing on a 2002 Grand Prix?

A few months ago, I changed the air filter on my 2002 Grand Prix SE. No matter how hard I pushed and pulled, I could not get the housing to close properly. As a result, the casing is open on the bottom side about half an inch and you can see the exposed air filter. The top is closed with clamps.

I suspect that dirty air is now bypassing the filter and going directly around the filter and into the engine. Today, my check engine light went on and it won't go off. I'm think that this might be the cause.

Is there a trick to getting the cover to close? This is really frustrating. Any tips would be appreciated.

ThanksIs there a trick to closing the air filter housing on a 2002 Grand Prix?take the clamp from the motor loose and pull the tube leading to the air box off of the engine. unclip the housing and position it. you also may need to take the wires and hose off the side of the tube to allow the box to move a little more freely. start at the bottom corners and slide them in at an angle. once they have slid into place close the housing and latch it shut. make sure to hook up the wires and hose to the tube and the tube back to the engine. hope this helps.

Integra Air filter cover on or off?

    http://i761.photobucket.com/albums/xx252

ok, im too lazy to change the whole intake system as i don't have full exhaust anyway. so put in an K%26amp;N filter into stock box on my last filter change.

now. today i was inspecting my filter to see how dirty it is, on the street and drove back home without the filter cover(too lazy to put it back on). and the car goes slightly more powerful and there is significant louder induction sound after 3500-4000 rpm.(a deep lower pitch sound kicks in, definately not VTEC coz it's B18b).

as u can see. with cover on the air for the engine goes down a pipe from the air box to where i show the red arrow is. which is the coolest area in engine bay.

so.. what is the real purpose of that air filter cover and to direct induction air with a downpipe? is it ok to use the car without the air filter cover? things im worry about is that the air that goes into the engine will be too hot?

please tell me what u think!Integra Air filter cover on or off?its to block out the hot air from the engine bay and use just the air coming from your fenderr, if you take the 10 seconds and put the cover back on you'll get a little better performance, because the way it is right now your letting hot air get in which anybody that knows anything about cars knows that heat is the enemy when your trying for performance, the added performance your getting is from the filter itself, not because you don't have the cover on, also the small HP increse your getting from the K%26amp;N isn't enough to where you'll feel, your just feeling the better acceleration since the fitler is high performance so its letting in more airIntegra Air filter cover on or off?I think you are now sucking in hot air from the engine bay instead of cooler air from in the fender. Your brain and butt dyno are just making you think there is more power but in reality, there is no way you can feel the tiny difference and once things warm up, you will hurt performance. If you just want the noise then go for it.

How do I improve the horsepower on my Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic Motorcycle?

I have a Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Classic, (it's a cruiser) and I've heard of a few options to improve horsepower from other riders, from a gadget that optimizes your air/fuel mixture, changing your air filter system, swapping/hacking the computer chip, and changing the exhaust system.

So, my question is: What is the best / easiest way to improve the horsepower???

How do I remove the air filter box on a 98' dodge dakota 5.2 liter? Trying to change spark plugs.?

Yes he's right and it's very straightforward just don't try to rush the job and be patient bec it can get frustrating etc .

When you do change the spark plugs , it's a good idea to clean the connectors inside the spark plug wires with a small flat head screwdriver, plus use a fine sandpaper and wire brush to clean the ignition coil spark plug wire connectors, and be sure to wipe them off with a fine clothe after sanding them. Also it's not a bad idea to check the air filter while you're at it.

Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way just so you know even if you buy pregapped plugs be sure to ask what the gap is suppose to be and use a spark gap tester to double check each plug before installing them.I highly recommend also that you do one plug at a time and wire. How do I remove the air filter box on a 98' dodge dakota 5.2 liter? How do i add more horsepower to my 1993 Dodge Intrepid?

Hello, my name is ken and I have an old 1993 dodge intrepid that I got as a gift for my 17th birthday and i was wondering if there is anyway to give it any more power. I have considered changing the air filter to a better brand to give it some extra horsepower but i was hoping for a more substantial increase of about 25+ horsepower. Is this possible? thank you *I have NOT found any cold air injection kits for my carHow do i add more horsepower to my 1993 Dodge Intrepid? You find a forced induction application for your engine or go custom. You will never be happy buying exhausts, intakes and other bolt on wastes of money. The only people that recommend them are people that try to justify their own wastes of money. How do i add more horsepower to my 1993 Dodge Intrepid? If you want more horsepower, and money is no problem, then tear the engine out of it and throw in a nice new Hemi. The newer hemi engines can shut off four valves when it doesn't need to use too much torque so that you can get thr gas mileage of a 4 cylinder, but of course, that's if you have money to blow. ^-^How do i add more horsepower to my 1993 Dodge Intrepid?nope you most likely wont even notice the change from the air filter unless the air filter right now is very dirty

for 25hp increase you would need about an exhaust, intake, and changing to diamond spark pugsHow do i add more horsepower to my 1993 Dodge Intrepid?intake, exhaust, tornado, performance chip (if they even make one)How do i add more horsepower to my 1993 Dodge Intrepid? There really isn't much you can do or should do to boost power output on an early 90s FWD Dodge. The first barrier is that it is speed-density (MAP) based fuel injection and not mass air (MAF) based. What this means is that any mods have to be done before or at the throttle body.

If you do anything that disturbs the volumetric efficiency of the engine such as port and polish, performance exhaust, cam swaps, forced induction, etc. the reading from the MAP sensor will no longer accurately tell the SBEC how much air is going through the engine and so it will inject the wrong amount of fuel which will make the car run like crap. To see what i mean simply remove the muffler(s) and try to drive the car. Upon going from closed (idle) to part throttle from a stop the engine will kick and sputter and have no power for a few seconds then it will catch and take off normally. This happens because lower exhaust backpressure also means lower intake pressure (deeper vacuum) which tells the SBEC via the MAP that there isn't as much air going in as there really is so it doesn't inject enough fuel and the engine runs lean and sputters until the O2 sensors tell it otherwise. Once this happens the SBEC richens the mixture and the car takes off.

To help as much as you can there are a few things you should do. If it is a 3.5 engine find out when the timing belt was last replaced as an old stretched belt retards the cam timing somewhat which reduces horsepower. If it needs to be changed do the water pump and the tensioner pulley at the same time.

Make sure the O2 sensors are the proper Denso ones and not Bosch and make sure the spark plugs are either copper or double platinum as you aren't supposed to run single platinum on a coil pack equipped vehicle because half the plugs fire with reversed polarity and will wear out faster than the other half.

Change the transmission fluid and filter using only ATF+4 fluid. It must say ATF+4 and MS-9602 on the bottle or you will be replacing the transmission (42LE) soon and it will shift poorly while it does work.

Make sure the engine oil is the proper 5W30 as heavier oil will reduce horsepower and MPG due to the extra drag.

  • Remove engine cover on Dodge conversion van?

I recently bought a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 van with an Elk conversion package . . . . I wanted to change the air filter on it, and it looks like the air filter is accessible only from behind the engine cover inside the cabin. However, I can't figure out how to remove the engine cover . . . . There are two latches on either side of the cover, which will loosen the cover when unlatched, but the cover won't come off (I don't want to force it). I can't figure out if I'm just missing something or if the extra carpeting around the bottom of the cover added by the conversion is hiding an additional latch or screw.

How can I minimize the dustiness of my home?

It seems like I have to dust twice a week (or sometimes more)! And it's really beginning to bug me - I've already changed the air filter in my home and it isn't helping much - how can I minimize the dustiness? How can I minimize the dustiness of my home?If you live in a high traffic area like a main road or highway, you're going to have more dust than if you didn't.

    Here's what I suggest:

Try using the hepa filter type air filters. They're white and pleated instead of the blue fiber type, that helps. They say to change this type every 60 to 90 days, I change them every 30 days.

You may also consider having one of those duct cleaning companies come in and super clean your duct work. They have these machines that literally suck everything out of there, and I think they steam clean them too, which can cut down on mold spores, etc.

Vaccuum your furniture, rugs, and carpets regularly. I've discovered that this is key. Do it even if they don't appear dirty, and get a good quality bagless vaccuum that has filters.

I use a product called Liquid Gold to dust with. I've noticed that dust doesn't settle back on the furniture as quickly as when I use lemon oil. You can get it at Walmart or Kmart.

You may also want to check the weatherstripping around windows, doors, even an attic access. If you don't have screen doors to the outside in addition to your entry doors, you might want to get them. They offer a little bit more protection from the outside elements and debris, not to mention making your home more energy efficient. How can I minimize the dustiness of my home?Leave the fan on the AC/furnace on more often and change the filter more frequently. How can I minimize the dustiness of my home?there are special furniture cleaning liquids that do that for you because if you use simple dry or wet mops the dust will just keep sticking to itHow can I minimize the dustiness of my home?WalMart has portable air cleaners with HEPA filters which are low maintenance and work in any home. How can I minimize the dustiness of my home?where is the dust coming from? are your windows well sealed? doors tightly closed. i know people have mentioned keeping your filters cleaned. change the bag in your vacuum often, use the dustclothes that trap dust not scatter it, same for the polishHow can I minimize the dustiness of my home? One more thing, add mats and rugs to all your entries and vacuum regularly. 90% of the dirt (which can become dust) in homes comes in on people's shoes.

How do I get rid of the musky smell that circulates when I start my Volkswagen Passat?

Especially in hot weather, my Passat stinks with a musky/rotten smell coming out of the air vents. I have changed the air filter, and that decreased the smell for a few weeks. It could be just a build up of stale air in the heating vents that need to be pushed out. Could be the deteriorating plastics combined together type of smell.

If you drive the car all summer and never use the heater, come the cold days, the heater stinks. That or something died in there.

The next morning I walk into the garage and it smells of %26quot;gear oil%26quot; That is 90W motor oil used in transmissions and rear ends. A distinct smell. This car does not use that type of oil. I am writing this because I have an issue with my car, and so far everyone I ask gives a different answer?

    It's really 3 issues.

    1. The car makes a grinding noise, like a pencil in a pencil sharpener or a card in spokes when I go above 40mph. The only thing is it's not consistant. If you think of the accelerater peddle like a scale of 0%-100%, then after 40mph it makes the noise between 0%-10% then runs smoth from 10%-20%, then grinds at 20%-30%, then after that it makes no noise no matter how far I push the accelerater down. It only does it above 40mph, and almost litterally the grinding shuts off when it drops below 40mph. The sound appears to be comming from the engine and I can feel a vibration the foot pedal.

    2. The car makes a rattling noise occassionally, when initially accelerating, like metal smacking but in a rattling manor. If I allow the car to idle in park and rev the engine to approx. 3000/rpms then in makes the noise continuesly (but only in park or nutral) Also on occasions I hear the noise when turning the wheel at slow speeds. I've looked under the hood, and it seems like the noise is either comming from behind the engine, or under it. I do not hear the noise when

I am driving unless, it is related to issue one, but they seem like seperate noises.

    3. The last thing, I believe I may know, but just to be sure. The vehicle seems like it is struggling to stay alive when idle or stopped at at light/sign. It's worse in park or nutral, but not as bad in drive. It also tends to shake (the whole car) when I am stopped, unless I put it in park or nutral at a light/sign. (This I have no clue)- Beyond that the accelerator seems to stick when initially engaging then surges forward like it recieved alot of power, and this happens not matter if I ease my foot onto the pedal or not. Also when I make a stop it does fine all the way till I am almost compltly stopped, then it almost seems like the tires lock, but it jerks foward everytime (only at complete stops, not slowing down).

    Some vehicle info-

    1991 Ford Excort 1.9L wagon.

65k Odometer (but turns over at 100k so could be 165k)

So far we've changed the oil, flushed the radiator, changed the air filter, and changed the fuel pump. We tried changing the CV joints, only to pull them off and find them in new condition. Also, not pertinent, we have rotated the tires.

Not sure what it is, I have heard a ton of suggestions, none being consistent. I also took it to AutoZone for a free diagnostic, and he said it read fine. I am not eager to jump to a mechanic, just to pay a ton only to figure out the problem. I don't mind going to one, but would like to know the problem first, so I know what to expect. Also, if it's a few small things it would be great to just take care of them myself. ThanksI am writing this because I have an issue with my car, and so far everyone I ask gives a different answer? You said if you %26quot;allow the car to idle in park and rev the engine to approximately 3000 rpms then it makes the noise continuously.%26quot; That is a very revealing clue which isolates the grinding noise to a part which is moving while the car is stationary and not in motion. The first things I would suspect are the a/c clutch bearing, the alternator bearing, or the transaxle/transmission main shaft (aka input shaft) bearing. But since you also said that you %26quot;can feel a vibration [in] the foot pedal%26quot; and that %26quot;the noise is either coming from behind the engine or under it,%26quot; I wouldn't bet a ham sandwich that the grinding/rattling noise is coming from the a/c clutch bearing or the alternator bearing. That makes the transaxle/transmission main shaft bearing my #1 suspect. But regardless of where the grinding noise is coming from, if the noise is continuous at 3000 rpm while in Park as you say, then it would be a simple matter to trace and identify using a mechanics stethoscope or a listening rod.I am writing this because I have an issue with my car, and so far everyone I ask gives a different answer?extremely good description of the problem. i tend to think u have a clogged exaust system/ catalitic converter.I am writing this because I have an issue with my car, and so far everyone I ask gives a different answer?Alot of mechanics will give you a free estimate and check out your car for free. make some calls and find out who can do this for you.I am writing this because I have an issue with my car, and so far everyone I ask gives a different answer?Problem 1 is definitely a wheel bearing.

Problem 2 sounds like an exhaust rattle, could even be the converter broke apart and pieces are in there, or even some of that heat insulator they put on at the factory is coming loose.

Problem 3 could be a few things, a tune up may fix it, maybe try some fuel injector cleaner too, thats where I would start.I am writing this because I have an issue with my car, and so far everyone I ask gives a different answer?I would think that the wheeI bearings would have been checked when the cv joints were replaced.

I think you need to inspect the motor/transmission mounts. If they are worn the engine/transaxle assembly will shift and make for weird noises and amplify small vibrations into loud ugly ones. It also allows the assembly to shift under cornering.

The surging problem sounds like a vacuum leak.I am writing this because I have an issue with my car, and so far everyone I ask gives a different answer?1. idk

    2.idk

    3. i know, escorts are knwon to have rough idles, try cleaning the IAC valve

1996 Kawasaki GPZ1100(ZX1100E) stalls when coming to idle?

My 96 Gpz 1100 stalls when coming down to idle RPM. If you just rev it, it will come down and idle fine. Hold it above 3000rpm for a few seconds and let off of the throttle, and it will sputter around 800rpm, and then stall. This is especially annoying when it stalls when coming to every single light.

I've had the carbs professionally rebuilt, balanced, all vacuum and air leaks found, and fixed. Even replaced all vacuum lines and T-fittings. Spark plugs were changed, air filter changed, valve lash checked and set by professional, ignition timing checked, and holds perfect. Battery replaced, and charging checked and is fine. It does deliver 15.3v at 4000RPM, but comes down to 12.5v at 1000rpm. I wouldn't think this would affect how it ran, but would the high voltage possibly slowly fry/heat up my IC ignitor box?

If anyone can help me solve this problem, I will love you forever!!! :D1996 Kawasaki GPZ1100(ZX1100E) stalls when coming to idle?1100 RPM for a bike that old is a little low.

When the engine compression lowers due to mileage, it doesn't produce enough vacuum to hold the CV throttle slides open.

Bring it up to 1200 - sometimes 1300 is necessary.

It's better for an engine to idle faster, rather than slower - less strain on the engine.

Whoever balanced the carbs, may not have adjusted the mixture screws.

An idle drop test will help adjust the problem you're describing.1996 Kawasaki GPZ1100(ZX1100E) stalls when coming to idle?800 rpm ? what are you trying to set the idle at ? at idle your voltage should be in the 13.2 range .12.5 means its running off the battery. battery should sit at about 12.7 v rev it and get it to die and then pull the plugs find out if its a too rich condition by the color of the plugs .personally id say the carbs were not adjusted correctly like maybe a float setting wrong . good luck

  • Did my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?

he got all his filters changed out, oils topped off, oil changed, air intake, cabin air filter, wiper blades replaced, transmition flush. im not sure the specifics, i need to find the reciepts.....but it cost $171

im having a hard time believing that's how much it costs. he had never been there before and didn't know the specs on how much those should cost....also, they broke our glove box and didn't tell us (its where the cabin air filter is at)

should i be pissed?Did my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?Sorry, but It's not Jiffy Lube's fault that your boyfriend didn't look at their prices before he asked them to do all the work. If Jiffy Lube posts all their prices and $171 is the total for all that service, then that's what it costs to have them do it. Their prices should be clearly posted in the store - go to the store and make sure they charged him correctly if you doubt the price is correct.

As for the glovebox being broken, I'd take the car back ASAP and talk to the manager of the Jiffy Lube about how it was broken after you had them change the cabin filter and work out how they're going to pay to fix it for you.Did my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?After all the parts/labour that's probably about right.Did my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?BELIEVE IT.........

If it 10 years old or newer it costs to have a ride servicedDid my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?the only thing you have to be upset about is the broken glove box. to flush a manual trans at the dealer is like $100 and an auto trans at the dealer is like $200 all by its self so no the prices are ok but breaking things is unacceptable.Did my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?My oil changes only cost me $29.99 with all the mentioned services. Wiper blades only cost me $20 from Auto Parts World and they change them for me. I have never changed transmition fluid, that's only if there is a specific problem. Filters are relatively inexpensive, maybe add $30-$40 to the total $80-$100 MAX! $171 was a hard screwing over and than some!Did my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?Yeah I would be upset too. Much of that could have been replaced by you at a much cheaper cost if you had bought the parts yourself. I have not been to a Jiffy Lube on a decade. I figured out how to do all that myself saving me hundreds of dollars over time. It's not likely the trans needed to be flushed. All of those filters could have been picked up at your local parts store for 1/3 of what he paid I'm sure. Wiper blades would have been $14 for the pair at a parts store. Those swift talking people there are the reason why I don't go. They are not experts on my specific car.Did my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?Yes and no. Having all that work done at a place like Jiffylube can cost that much. If you do it on your own you can have it done for $50. If you do have them do the oil change don't ever have them add anything extra. Replacing an air filter is as easy as opened a case and putting a new $10 filter in, they will typically charge you $20 to have just that done. And yes, you should be pissed that they broke your glove box.Did my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?Parts alone wont cost that much. At garage they will always charge you for laber too. To me it sound about right. But it also depands what kind of oil or filter he got. The cheapest? Most expansive. Some places even charge $2 to install a single wiper blade. Cabin air filters can be expensive for some cars too.Did my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?it sounds like that would be very close for all that service

but was all of it needed?

some garages pay a base amount plus commission

the more they do the bigger their payDid my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?He should have been told the cost before any extra work was done and approved it with his signature. If that was the case then he should have no complaints other than the broken glove box. It is not their fault he approved the work and then wants to complain about the price after the work is performed. If they performed the extra work without advising him of the cost and getting his signature as approval then YES he should be pissed, and should complain to them and the District or Regional manager. You will be surprised how attentive these shops can be when you ask for the address of either of these managers.

(retired ASE mechanic)Did my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?Buy a car never have any money. Buy a motorbike still have some money. Buy a push bike stay rich.Ain;t difficult.Did my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?buyer beware!

your boyfriend should be more knowledgable about his car. that's how these places make the extra money, based on customer's ignorance. the techs let the customer know how often these items need changed or replaced, then strongly recommends having it done. the ultimate decision is left up to the customer, who wants to take care of his car and usually ok's the service, not realizing how quickly it all adds up until he pays at the end. (most likely, these services were not needed to be done anyway)

as for the glovebox, definitely take your car back and have the manager inspect it. he should take care of that right away, and if not, ask him for the regional manager's and corporate headquarter's phone numbers.

good luck and hope this helps

-a former jiffy lube %26quot;certified lubrication technician%26quot;Did my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?Ican't believe jiffy lube had all that. if u went to the dealer theyd charge u twice that. but dont go to those quick lube places. its just a matter of time before they strip your oil pan threads or god knows what else..Did my boyfriend get ripped off? went to jiffylube...?They charge by how long it takes, not how easy/hard it is to do. That price sounds right, but as everyone is saying, that glove box issue he'll have to pay for it and might catch crap from his boss(es) for not telling anyone. Mechanics get a lot of %26quot;ever since%26quot;s as in %26quot;ever since you worked on my car this this this that stopped working....%26quot; which usually are something that the customer notices after they get their car back or maybe even previously knew about and took it in to blame it on the mechanic but this one is legit, It wont be hard to get them to fix the glove box. I tend to avoid specialty places like that though because if they break something, they don't know how to fix like the glove box, they have to send it to someone else, and they charge more.

What's wrong with my 2003 Impala?

My 2003 Impala shifts hard! Also when I come to a stop it starts to choke and die, same thing when I am going uphill (only when I am going slow, like turning a corner to go uphill). The engine code says that it's the EGR Valve, but I've replaced it, and it still is doing the same thing. Also last week I gave my car a major tune up:

    Changed spark plugs and wires

    Changed air filter

    Changed fuel filter

    Changed Oil/Filter

    Changed Trans Fluid/Filter

    Changed PCV Valve

    Flushed Radiator

I also added Lucas Transmission Fix, didn't help.

What maintenance should I do on my SUV on a regular basis?

I bought a truck last summer, a 2003 Chevy Blazer. It's running very well, has 180k on it. I'm only 19 and I'm not quite sure what I should be doing to keep it in good shape. I do oil changes every three months, check tire pressure and fluids regularly. Is there anything I should also be doing on a regular basis like tune ups? Air filter changes? And if so, how often? What maintenance should I do on my SUV on a regular basis?you don,t have to change the oil that often unless you put a lot of miles on it. stuff like gas and air filter, check the pcv valve, check the transmission fluid and if it looks dark change it and the filter. spark plugs and wires, keep the suspension greased like ball joints and tie rods, grease is cheaper then parts ! there,s a few things you can do to keep it running good. What maintenance should I do on my SUV on a regular basis? The owners manual usually has recommended service. Air filter after 10,000 miles, spark plugs every 50,000, etcWhat maintenance should I do on my SUV on a regular basis?thats pretty much all the maintenance you should do but also have them check the rubber gaskets on the car occasionally because if that breaks it could be a 1400 dollar repair. Not from the gaskets but fluids leaking. This shouldnt be a problem until the car is ten years old or if you drive fast or accelerate full throttle often. In conclusion, just take care of your car and never ignore lights on your dash. Hope i could help. What maintenance should I do on my SUV on a regular basis? You would be very smart if you have the engine de-sludged. You can do it yourself with Seafoam or Amzoil crankcase cleaner. Swear off regular engine oil FOREVER, and switch to the Mobil One product that states, %26quot;designed to meet or exceed GM specifications.%26quot; ALWAYS read the label on oil you use, forget advertising and word of mouth stuff. This oil will continually clean your engine as you drive, and PREVENT power robbing sludge formation. Use the %26quot;0W%26quot; weight meeting GM spec's. You will save money, since the oil only needs changing once yearly. CLean your throttle body, plate, and IDLE AIR CONTROL VALVE often. These little items affect power and MPG's. Use Amzoil Foaming Cleaner, if you can find it. Use it to clean your PCV valve and hose. Run it through your throttle body to clean piston tops, rings, and valve stems. When you are sure your engine is showroom, install a set of Nippondenso Iridium plugs. Watch your power boost by 20% and your MPG's rise about the same. THese plugs react with the fuel and improved response results. If you can't find the Nippondenso's, then use Bosch FUsion or Platinum single points. Even GM doesn't use AC/Delco plugs anymore in their top of the line units. They simply are too inefficient. Good luck!!

What sort of repairs to real estate agents want you to make on a home before they agree to list it?

Okay.. here goes. My husband and I bought our home about 3 years ago. I was pretty young (19 and he was 21) at the time and we sort of jumped into buying it without thinking about how much upkeep owning a home would be. We're not behind on our payments or anything like that and the mortgage isn't too much ($615/mo and apartment rent around here runs around $475). The home is an older one, so a lot of stuff is out dated, but I had a family friend who told me real estate agents generally require you to do a lot of fixing up before they'll agree to list your home.

We would like to own a home again in about 5 years but our home is pretty big and we'd like a smaller one. We're trying to have a baby and 5 years of not having to maintain a home would allow us to save quite a bit (not having to change air filters, putting rid-x in the septic tank every month, no paying for pest control, etc).

Since the market is still pretty rocky I don't have unrealistic expectations going into this, and I'm only looking to make what I owe on the home plus closing costs. I just don't want to spend thousands of dollars tweaking the house up to get it ready to sell.

For those of you who've sold your home, or are in the process of selling, what sort of demands were made by the realestate agents, and did you consider just putting the home up for sale by owner to bypass the 6% fee for the agent's comission? What sort of repairs to real estate agents want you to make on a home before they agree to list it?A real estate agent will not require you to make improvements to a home, but the home will have to meet the local building code. If your buyer wishes to have an FHA mortgage, then there will be common things required to make the home salable

An agent will suggest a price for a home that needs work, and show you comparables for homes similar to yours that are on the market, or recently sold, or expired without being sold. He will have a higher set of figures for you for a home in good condition.

If you rent a home, the owner will have to provide air filters for you to replace, rid-x for the septic tank, and pest control. It's not free, so you will pay for it as part of your rent.

You limit the number of buyers when you try to sell it yourself. If you look at the newspaper or on the internet for homes for sale by real estate companies, other buyers are doing the same. Few buyers have the time to search FSBO's. A smart buyer knows that if you are not paying 5,6,or 7% commission to an agent, they deduct this amount from their offering price. What sort of repairs to real estate agents want you to make on a home before they agree to list it?You will not be required to do anything, unless you want to. What your friend missed is that it is in your best interest to make the home presentable to buyers. If you do not want to update or do any major renovations a good idea is to definately paint the interior a neutral color, make sure you clean thoroughly, and do your best to have some curb appeal. If certain rooms or even closets are overflowing with *stuff*, get a storage unit and move that stuff out. Buyers do look in closets to see how much space there is as well as cabinets and such! The only other thing I would say is, price it aggressively so that you will sell quicker.

I would bypass the FSBO way of doing things. A lot of agents will not even mention your house to their clients because of it.What sort of repairs to real estate agents want you to make on a home before they agree to list it?Repair what you want but be prepared to lower selling price if repairs need doneWhat sort of repairs to real estate agents want you to make on a home before they agree to list it?As long as it is clean and tidy no agent is going to refuse the listing. They may offer additional suggestions from their experience. There are some great resources on the web about how to %26quot;stage%26quot; your home while still living there; just do a search.

I've done the FSBO route once; terrible experience. Next time, found a flat-fee listing agent who did no work other than load to MLS and the rest was on me. Much better, but still had to always be there because no lockbox, had to sit on the deck while it was being shown, and had to work hard to avoid making any verbal representations or guarantees that could come back and bite me.

That ended up well, but from then on I have used a realtor. I do negotiate the commission rates; we currently have a home listed with a 1% listing commission and 3% sales commission (total 4%). I feel this accurately reflects the proper reward for effort balance since there is little done in the way of marketing these days. I've been turned down by some but always find one that will agree to this.

Realtors also have deeper access to MLS to help with the market analysis and let you establish a reasonable asking price; many of the homes that are sitting on the market are there only because they are overpriced and the seller isn't being realistic.

Good luck. What sort of repairs to real estate agents want you to make on a home before they agree to list it?First, I applaud you for buying a home at such a young age.

If you bought your home 3 years ago you probably paid more than you will be able to sell it for today. Contact a couple real estate agents and have them do a Comparative Market Analysis and then have them prepare a Seller's Estimated Costs which will show you how much you will %26quot;net%26quot; after the sale and paying commissions, mortgage, other closing costs. You may see that you will lose money and have to bring money to closing.

A savings of $140 for renting vs owning does not seem like a big savings. By owning you are able to deduct interest on the loan against your taxes which may make owning much better than renting.

I would suggest that you keep the home and address any issues in the home room-by-room. Take one weekend a buy a few materials at a time and fix up one room every couple weeks. If you can stick it out in this home for 3-5 more years the real estate market may turn around and you will be able to make a decent profit on the sale of your home.

I am guessing that you purchased your home for around $80,000?

Most likely you still owe around $76000, 5% commission at 80,000 is $4000,other closing costs $2000... You would need to sell for over $82,000 to come close to %26quot;breaking even%26quot; at closing.

  • Poor fuel mileage 2004 Explorer?

I recently bought a 2004 Explorer NBX with a V-8. I expect it should get 18 mpg highway, but I tested it over a long interstate drive and got just 13, and much worse in the city. It has 4wd but I was driving with it off and on cruise control behind semi trucks just to see how good the mileage could get.

I took it to a dealer for a tune up and inspection after buying, and they said it's in great condition. Only has 44k miles, new oil change, air filter, properly inflated tires, etc. Why am I not getting better mileage and are there any out of the box suggestions to improve mileage? Yes, I know I shouldn't be expecting great mileage with this vehicle but any car under 50k miles that gets 40% worse fuel economy than it's rated for is something to be concerned with. Car dies randomly at red lights?

I have a 67 impala and just got a tune up (changed air filter and spark plugs myself) and got a well respected mechanic to change the starter, change the spark plug wires and distributor caps and also gave it a tune up (fixed the timing and adjusted the carburetor). Now when I drive it, it will sometimes die on me at red lights waiting for it to turn green and when I start it back up it will have a %26quot;grrr%26quot; sound when I turn the key (only sometimes).

What can this be and how can I fix this?Car dies randomly at red lights?Have you check your fuel system. Your fuel pump may not working fine or the fuel filter is clogging with dirt already. You might have also faulty fuel pump relay. If the relay are not working fine, the fuel pump will not work fine also causing poor distribution of fuel to the carburator. Have this check by your respected mechanic. He might neglect this part. Hope this helps!Car dies randomly at red lights?Probably just need to set the idle up a bit, or adjust the idle mixture. If you are running air conditioning, that specific idle speed, which is higher than when the air is off to make up for the drag created by the compressor, may need to be increased. Modern cars have sensors on the engine and maintain idle with electronics and small stepper motors. Your 67 has only mechanical devices to keep the idle where it needs to be.

To get access to the radiator cap - remove the speedometer cluster on the fuel tank.

Have a pair of needle nose pliers ready to remove the speedometer cable when the meter is lifted.

    Loosen the radiator cap.

The coolant drain bolt is on the water pump cover.

Right side of engine - radiator hoses go the water pump cover - drain bolt is on the bottom of the cover - it has a sealing washer on it.

Remove the bolt to drain the coolant.

Remove the oil fill cap (top of the clutch cover - rt side engine cover).

Fill with brand name 10W40 4 stroke motor oil until it covers the oil level window (right side engine cover).

Install the fill cap - start and run the engine for a few minutes - to fill the oil filter and let the oil circulate throughout the engine.

Stop the engine and let it sit for a few minutes to let the oil drain down to the crankcase.

How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?

i have a 98 Muercry Mystic and i know that when i get the air compresser and blow air directly in to the air filter chamber i get more horse power, how do i achieve the same effect with out having to buy a turbo charger. any one know of a simple home made device? How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?Any time you can increase the forced air intake on a vehicle you gain horse power.

There are aftermarket items (The Tornado) that are made to increase airflow without comprimising the smog aspects (like california smog laws).

It's also not so much as the actual increased air amount but the amount of air that is fed into the EFI/Carburation system that actually provides this 'Boost'How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?Opening up the intake allows the engine to breathe better. Try routing the air intake duct to point toward the front of the car where the most air comes into the engine compartment and also remove the intake silencer. Good luck. How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?Aerodynamics is also important, have a look at what is slowing the car down, such as open windows.

here's more on aerodynamic drag, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drag_(physi

It's not the most important thing to think of, for such a car, but it does help. How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?you can also put in like 92 or 93 octane gas so it gives you more power and it let your engine run more smooth. How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?the only way to better yourself and your mercury mistake is to buy a for sale sign and put it in the window. or take it to the junkyard.

you can double the value of your mercury mistake by filling the tank with gasoline. How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?Get a free air-filter set by the car grint and change the last muffler boiler. You may change the whole muffler set, but it takes

a car horsepower study. If it is at a point of 5.0 lit. ,change the whole pipe set and add the free filter. You'll get some acceleration

improvement and a kick down betterment, but don't expect turbo miracles! Put a bigger radiator and fan elice too.-

Ciao.......John-John.How would i increase the horsepower of my car only by changing the air intake?you can buy an aftermarket intake that will force more air into the engine in result more power an also you could probly change the throttle body too a bigger one which will open up the air flow even more. and opening up the exhaust will help it breathe better

My overfilled mower won't start and sounds like liquid swooshing around when I turn the key. Help!?

I have an Ariens 927 riding mower for my 1.5 acre yard and I'm afraid I have broken it! At first the engine wouldn't start, so I tried to jumpstart it and it would start but die again real quick. Then I checked the engine oil and it was low... I totally overfilled it! When I (jump)started the engine this time it spit out oil from the air filter! I siphoned out the excess oil. I could't find the oil drain plug. I found a screw on the other side of the engine but that let out gasoline (I think!). Probably my worst mistake was tipping it on its service bar to look under it - because now when I (jump)start the engine it doesn't even turnover and there's this swooshing liquid sound in the carb. Could it be gas? I also looked in the battery and one part looked dry so I added some distilled water. I don't think it leaked though. I feel real bad I think killed this engine and would appreciate any advice on how to fix it. I think I need to change the air filter and spark plugs right? Thanks! My overfilled mower won't start and sounds like liquid swooshing around when I turn the key. Help!?LOL! Sorry, I couldn't help it.

OK, it sounds like you've got oil in the compression chamber of your mower.

First make sure the oil is at the right range in level. If I has too much then it will be hard running and will blow black/white smoke for a long time. Even if you can't find it, there should be a drain plug. Can't find it? Follow your dipstick tube thing down to the oil pan. Your plug should be on the bottom of that. Ariens makes nice mowers and I don't think they would make the plug too hard to find. Still can't find it? consult your manual or Ariens web site.

Next remove your air filter so the engine can breathe. I imagine it's probably covered in oil now... just a guess.

Then remove your spark plugs. Not too sure about that mower, but it may have two... on opposite sides of the engine. This will prevent the compression chamber from building pressure, but will also allow the excess oil to be blown from the chamber. Also, clean or replace your plugs (Cleaning is probably sufficient). Oil doesn't typically allow spark.

Now try to start the engine. Obviously it won't start since you have no plugs in, but it should at least try to crank. This will make you feel very happy actually hearing the engine turn. You may need to jump start it off a running vehicle as you'll need the engine to crank for a while to let the engine air out.

It would be nice to take a lint-free rag and try to wipe out the engine from where your plugs where. Micro-fiber rags are your friend.

Once your sure your engine's compression chamber is oil free you can put your plugs back in and try to start it. It should at least try to turn now. (keep your fingers crossed). You might need to help it a bit with starting fluid or even pour a drop or two of gasoline into your carburetor. Also, make sure you have gas in your tank.

Typically when I start a mower or tractor I run half throttle and full choke. Even if it doesn't need choke I typically use it, but turn it off almost immediately. Also when shutting down, I turn the throttle down all the way. It just kinda makes sense to me since most people don't shut down their cars at full throttle... just a thought.

Your tractor may not ever be the same, but at least you've learned something from it.My overfilled mower won't start and sounds like liquid swooshing around when I turn the key. Help!?its brokenMy overfilled mower won't start and sounds like liquid swooshing around when I turn the key. Help!?Dry the plugs off, replace the air filter...... what happened is you did overfill it and the engine burped it up basically.... that woooshing sound, is probablly oil in the cylinders.... (take the plugs out and turn the engine over a few times to let it blow out) And this will lock em too (liquid can't be compressed)

As for the oil drain, it more then likely has a drain located on the side of the engine at the very base of the engine block... If you have the owners manual, this is the best thing to look at.My overfilled mower won't start and sounds like liquid swooshing around when I turn the key. Help!?you need to remove the spark plug. and crank over the engine to purge the oil from the head. replace the air filter and spark plug with a new one and don't over fill it this time( goes without saying but...) it happens... get it started, it will smoke alot then the oil will burn off so just let it run awhile. You didn't kill it I've seen it so many times you'll be fine.
