How do you change an air filter?

I have very little experience with cars, but instead of getting ripped off by the mechanic, i'd like to try to change the air filter myself. I have a 1999 Chevy Prism (compact). Is there a certain size filter I should buy, or are they standard? What tools will I need? Thanks..How do you change an air filter?they usually just have clips.
